A New Initiative for Gaza
A recent report in the Russian newspaper Nezavisimaya has revealed that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is working on a plan to address the situation in Gaza after the ongoing Israeli war. Erdogan's visit to the United Nations climate summit in the Emirates was seen as an opportunity to discuss this initiative.
Turkey's Support for Gaza
The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported that Turkey stands with the Palestinian factions in Gaza, and Erdogan believes that excluding Hamas from the political system will not lead to success. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan proposed that Turkey and other countries in the region become guarantors of Palestine, while other countries would become guarantors of Israel.
A Main Option for Settlement
Fidan explained that Turkey sees this initiative as a main option for a settlement. The idea is that if Israel wants security in the region, the Palestinians should have their own state. This, according to Fidan, is the only way to achieve lasting peace.
Ending the Conflict
Erdogan also mentioned that a contact group of Islamic countries is ready to develop a roadmap to end the conflict in Gaza, following discussions with Western powers. He expressed disappointment that the opportunity for peace was lost due to the strict Israeli approach after the humanitarian truce in Gaza. However, he emphasized that Hamas cannot be excluded from any potential solution to the conflict.
Butcher of Gaza
Erdogan strongly criticized the Israeli government's actions in Gaza, referring to them as "massive terrorist acts" and "state terrorism." He called for the International Criminal Court to hold the perpetrators accountable for their actions. Additionally, Erdogan reiterated his support for Hamas, stating that he does not consider them a terrorist organization.
