Finally, the conscience of the United States is exposed, to which many in the East looked up, thinking it different from the English, French, and other well-known European consciences.
Finally, this American conscience is unveiled, and it turns out to be, like everything else American, an “American conscience!”
We in Egypt know the “American game,” and we know it’s a total scam. This game is prohibited because it involves deception and fraud. The “American conscience” revealed by Truman’s statements is not much higher than this banned game!
Many were deceived by this conscience because the East had not long been in contact with America, as it had with England, France, and Holland. When contact began over the issue of Palestine, this deception revealed a dead conscience, gambling with the fates of nations and the rights of humanity to gain a few votes in an election.
All those Westerners are the same: a rotten conscience, a fake civilization, and a huge deception called “democracy,” believed in by the deceived!
This has always been my belief in all of them, at a time when some people trusted one group and distrusted another, with America generally enjoying the trust of many.
Here is America revealing itself to everyone. Here is Truman revealing the true “American conscience,” which is the same as every other Western conscience: rotten and trusted only by the deceived!
They all come from the same source: that materialistic civilization that has no heart or conscience, that hears only the voice of machines, speaks only the language of commerce, and sees only through the eyes of a usurer, measuring all humanity by these standards.
How much I hate and despise those Westerners! All of them without exception: the English, the French, the Dutch, and finally the Americans, who once enjoyed the trust of many.
But I do not hate and despise these alone. I also hate and despise those Egyptians and Arabs who still trust the Western conscience in general and the conscience of colonialism in particular.
This is the crime they commit every day against their poor people: the crime of anesthetizing and misleading, carrying false hopes and deceptive dreams in that rotten conscience.
The Prophet of Islam says, “A believer is not stung twice from the same hole,” and here we are, stung from the same hole repeatedly, returning each time to this same hole with our eyes closed, seeking honey from the lairs of snakes. We never once try to destroy these lairs, trample these snakes, and rid ourselves of the illusion that repeatedly leads us to these holes!
It is a crime that we repeat time and again—a crime against ourselves, a crime against our homeland, and a crime against our faith. It is negligence that does not deserve respect, as it proves our stupidity!
But it is only fair not to brand the Arab people with this mark. These people are too smart and too passionate to accept humiliation for themselves. It is that handful of politicians from the previous generation in Egypt and some Arab countries—those weak, elderly, exhausted, and shattered individuals—who cannot struggle and do not allow the people to struggle. Their selfishness keeps them clinging to power, preventing them from stepping aside and leaving the field to the capable!
This handful of politicians from the previous generation invented words like negotiations, talks, and conferences. Why? Because they are easy means that cost nothing and guarantee them seats of power and authority for a while. Whenever the people wanted to find their way and face the colonizers themselves, these politicians would stand between them and the colonizers, fighting the people while the people fought them. When they were worn out from fighting their own people, they would start instilling the nation with trust in the colonizers and spreading false hopes in this rotten conscience!
That is the story—the story of lairs and snakes and the repeated bites from these lairs. It is a tragedy, but it is only just to exonerate the Arab people from it, not to blame them for the actions of a handful of weak, sickly, and exhausted politicians!
And the American conscience!
Many understood it to be something different from the European conscience. Allah wanted—perhaps for the good of this afflicted Arab nation—to reveal that conscience. It is a materialistic conscience, the conscience of a machine that feels nothing, the conscience of a merchant who has no qualms and cares not for rights, justice, or decency.
Can such a mechanical civilization produce anything but a conscience of this sort?
It is not a matter of race or state. The Americans are no better than the English, the English are no better than the French, and the French are no better than the Dutch. They are all children of the same civilization—a detestable, materialistic civilization with no heart or conscience. A civilization that takes without giving and wounds without healing. A selfish, petty civilization, however grand and shiny it may seem from the outside!
It is a false civilization because it has not provided humanity with any spiritual nourishment, nor has it attempted to elevate humanity above the law of the jungle. Does this civilization apply anything but the law of the jungle to the afflicted people on this earth?
And among the Eastern nations, there are those who are either ignorant or deceitful, trusting the bearers of such civilizations and persuading their people to trust that conscience. They dampen their spirits for decisive jihad and fruitful struggle at the most opportune times!
Among the noise of the machines, a faint human voice occasionally rises in those lands, calling for a return to Allah, like the voice of Cardinal Griffin in England a few days ago when he gave a religious sermon at the Westminster Cathedral, saying:
(God has been excluded from the Charter of the United Nations. This is why the United Nations has not yet been able to become truly “united”).
(There must be a place for God and His principles of kindness and justice in international affairs for freedom to become a reality throughout the world and for man to live in peace and security).
But it is a faint voice, unheard amid the noise of machines that drowns out the voice of conscience, and a hoarse tone lost amid the cries of greed and the howls of desires in that tumultuous world!
So now, O East, what do you want?
If you seek to free yourself from the claws of the Western beast, there is only one clear path without diversions. It is the closest path: know yourself, reassess your strengths, prepare for the struggle, and start fighting. Do not listen to the deceiving voice whispering to you to trust in the corrupted conscience of the West.
But if you prefer comfort with that worn-out generation of pampered politicians, many paths lie ahead, filled with branches and twists. There are negotiations, conversations, gauging opinions, and exploring viewpoints. There’s soft diplomacy, gentle and polite words, endless waiting, and unnecessary begging. There are grand conferences, roundtables, white papers, blue books, green books, and an endless array of paths and detours!
Thank God, O East, the mask has been lifted from the true conscience—the “American conscience” that many have been clinging to with blind eyes!
Thank God, O East, your new sun rises in the East while the sun of this shameless West is setting. You possess a spiritual wealth and an ancient legacy that this brutal West lacks, as it devours itself like beasts under the law of the jungle in its never-ending conflicts. Does the strife among beasts in the jungle ever end?
This is the appropriate moment, O East, for liberation. Shake off the weak and exhausted men of the past. Step forward into the arena, for the causes of the people today must be addressed by the people themselves.
And the Palestine cause is the cause of every Arab nation, indeed every Eastern nation. It represents the struggle between the rising East and the savage West.
