Palestinian Census: The Year 2023 Sees Highest Number of Martyrs Since 1948 Featured

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics released some important information about the population and the number of people who lost their lives in 2023.

The Palestinian Population

According to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics, at the end of 2023, there were about 14 million and 630 thousand Palestinians. That's a lot of people! Out of these, 7.55 million live in the State of Palestine, with more than a third of them residing in the Gaza Strip. Additionally, there are 1.75 million Palestinians in the 1948 territories, around 6.56 million in Arab countries, and about 772 thousand in foreign countries.

The Number of Martyrs

The year 2023 saw the highest number of martyrs since the Nakba of 1948.   In Palestine, the number of martyrs in 2023 reached a staggering 22,404. That's a lot of brave individuals who sacrificed their lives.

The Gaza Strip

Most of these martyrs, around 98%, were from the Gaza Strip. The Gaza Strip is an area in Palestine that has been facing a devastating war with Israel since October 7. This war has caused a lot of destruction, with 21,822 people losing their lives and 56,451 getting injured. It is truly a humanitarian catastrophe.
