Why did the occupation resume the genocide in Gaza?

By Saif Bakir March 25, 2025 89

The Zionist occupation has returned to a war of extermination and is committing its brutal massacres in the Gaza Strip, reminiscent of the bloody and brutal scenes of the first days of the aggression. It targeted defenseless civilians in their homes and shelters, resulting in the deaths and disappearance of more than 322 individuals within just 5 hours, according to the Gaza government media office.

The Gaza government stated that the majority of the casualties are women, children, and the elderly, amidst catastrophic humanitarian conditions that have worsened due to a lack of fuel and the near-total collapse of the health sector.

The correspondent for "Al Jazeera" in Gaza, Anas Al-Sharif, documented the heinous crime carried out by the occupation, stating: "The genocide against Gaza has returned with ferocity, reminiscent of the scenes from the early days of the aggression, where the bodies and remains of children are piled under the rubble of destroyed homes. Airstrikes targeted residential buildings and shelters, increasing the toll of brutal killings."

The government media office in Gaza explained that the occupation continues to systematically target civilians, relying on methods of mass killing, starvation, and siege. It emphasized that these massacres represent a continuation of the crime of genocide against the Palestinians, in a blatant violation of all international and humanitarian laws.

Choking siege... and the collapse of the health system.

The escalation of the occupation coincided with an unprecedented deterioration in humanitarian conditions within the sector, where 2.4 million Palestinians are suffering from shortages of food, water, baby milk, and medicine, while the occupying authorities prevent the entry of any aid or medical supplies; this threatens the lives of thousands of patients and wounded individuals. Additionally, the halt in fuel supplies threatens vital sectors, particularly hospitals, which have become unable to provide medical services.

In light of these harsh circumstances, international silence continues, as the international community has failed to take any serious steps to stop the massacres or to pressure the occupation to respect international agreements.

Angry Palestinian Responses

In its initial reactions, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) stated that the occupation, led by Netanyahu and his fascist government, has decided to resume the genocide against defenseless civilians, holding the occupation fully responsible for the consequences of this treacherous aggression.

The movement added in its statement that the occupying government is making a clear decision to overturn the ceasefire agreement, putting the prisoners in Gaza at risk of an unknown fate, and calling on the mediators to bear their responsibilities regarding this serious violation of the agreement.

For its part, the Islamic Jihad Movement confirmed that the resumption of the occupation's aggression is a continuation of committing massacres and a failed attempt to achieve field gains at the expense of innocent blood, emphasizing that the resistance will not remain idle.

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine described the Zionist escalation as a pre-planned act of genocide, emphasizing that the occupation seeks to implement an ethnic cleansing agenda against the Palestinian people, and calling on the international community to intervene immediately.

Analysts: Netanyahu escapes his crises by igniting war.

The author and political analyst Ahmed Al-Hayla believes that the resumption of the occupation's aggression is due to several motives, the most important of which are:

  1. The coup against the ceasefire agreement to ensure Netanyahu remains in power and to delay holding him accountable for his failure in the "Al-Aqsa Flood" battle.
  2. The escape from the internal crisis that has escalated with the security apparatus and public opinion in "Israel," especially with the preparations for massive protests against him in all "Israeli" cities.
  3. Exploiting the American aggression against Yemen to redraw the map of the region, through Israeli-American coordination to target shared adversaries in the Middle East.

The writer Yasser Zaatra confirmed that Netanyahu is escaping his internal stormy crisis by resuming the war, taking advantage of American and international complicity.

He pointed out that the silence of the mediators and all Arabs is a crime, especially since it targets Syria and Lebanon as well.

Calls for urgent action

Hamas called on the United Nations and the Security Council to hold an emergency session to make a decisive decision that obliges the occupation to immediately halt its aggression and implement resolution (2735), which calls for ending the aggression and a complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.

The movement has called on the sons of the Arab and Islamic nations and the free people of the world to take to the streets and squares, raising their voices high in rejection of the continuation of the Zionist genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.

For its part, the government media office in Gaza urged the United Nations, the Security Council, and human rights organizations to take urgent action to stop the brutal massacres committed by the occupation, emphasizing the necessity of holding the occupiers' leaders accountable for their crimes before international courts.

The office emphasized that the Palestinian people, despite all the crimes, will not be broken or surrender, but will continue their steadfastness and legitimate struggle until they liberate their land and regain their full rights.

In light of the ongoing horrific crimes, the question remains: How long will the world continue to watch the genocide in Gaza without any real deterrence?
