Volker Türk
In a related context, the High Commissioner for Human Rights "Volker Türk" called at the opening of the 57th session of the Human Rights Council to end the war in Gaza and avoid a full-fledged "regional conflict" as an absolute and urgent priority.
He said in his speech: "The deadly and destructive operations committed by Israel in the West Bank, which we have not seen the likes of in two decades, are exacerbating the catastrophic situation."
Türk called on countries to take action regarding the "blatant disregard" by the Israeli occupation for international law in the occupied Palestinian territories.
“States must not and cannot accept blatant disregard for international law, including binding Security Council resolutions and International Court of Justice orders, in this situation or any other,” he added.
