Israel's Request for a Truce
Israel wants to have a one-day break from all the fighting happening in the Gaza Strip. They have asked for this truce in exchange for releasing more women and children who are being held in Gaza. Sounds fair, right?
Chances of a Truce
The chances of this truce are pretty slim. It might take another two to four days to reach an agreement. So, we'll have to wait and see what happens.
Background on the Conflict
Israel had a 7-day truce with Hamas, but that ended yesterday. And they started bombing civilians again. It has been a devastating war for the people living in Gaza.
During that truce, Israel released 80 Israelis who were being held in Gaza, and in return, 240 Palestinian prisoners were set free from Israeli prisons. It was all part of a deal made with the help of Qatar, Egypt, and the United States.
White House's Role
The White House, which is where the President of the United States lives, is working hard to bring back the truce. They're talking to Israel, Egypt, and Qatar to make it happen. They even said they have high hopes for another truce to be declared soon.
The White House is blaming Hamas for ending the truce. They want Hamas to give them a list of people who are being held captive so they can keep sending aid to Gaza. It's like a hostage situation, but with countries instead of individuals.
Hamas' Response
Hamas says it is not their fault that the war started again. They affirm that during negotiations, they offered to exchange prisoners and even hand over the bodies of people who were killed in the bombings. However, Israel refused to accept these offers.
Hamas is also blaming the United States and President Joe Biden for supporting Israel's actions. They think the U.S. gave Israel the green light to continue attacking Gaza after the U.S. Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, visited Israel.
Hamas' Determination
Despite all the challenges, Hamas is determined to stand strong. They believe that the Palestinian people and their resistance will overcome the aggression and break the will of the Israeli army. They're not giving up!
