What Happened?
Israel recently gave the green light to a deal. This deal is all about swapping prisoners and detainees with Hamas, and it also includes a temporary break from fighting. The Israeli government made this decision during a long meeting led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Almost everyone was on board with the deal, except for three ministers from a party called Religious Zionism.
What's in the Deal?
According to the Israeli Prime Minister, the first phase of the agreement involves releasing at least 50 detainees, including women and children, over a span of four days. During this time, both sides will stop fighting. Sounds like a good plan to bring some peace, right?
What Does Hamas Say?
Hamas, the group that Israel is making the deal with, confirmed that they reached a four-day truce agreement with the help of Qatar and Egypt. They had some tough negotiations, but they made it work! As part of the deal, lots of trucks carrying humanitarian aid, medical supplies, and fuel will be allowed into the Gaza Strip. Plus, the Israeli military won't be allowed to enter Gaza, and both sides will stop any military actions. It's all about giving peace a chance!
What Did the US President Say?
Even the President of the United States, Joe Biden, had something to say about this. He mentioned that they are very close to reaching an agreement about the prisoners in Gaza. A person from the US National Security Council also said that they are working hard to make this deal happen. It's great to see countries coming together to find a solution!
What About the Prisoners?
Now, let's talk about the prisoners. The military wing of Hamas, called the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, said that they are currently holding around 200 prisoners. These prisoners are Israelis who were captured during an operation called Al-Aqsa Flood. On the other hand, the Israeli bombings in Gaza caused the unfortunate loss of more than 60 prisoners. It's a tough situation for everyone involved.
