Hamas has announced that they reached an agreement with Israel for a truce. This means that both sides have agreed to stop fighting for a period of 4 days. It wasn't easy to come to this agreement, but thanks to the efforts of Qatar and Egypt, they made it happen.
What's in the Agreement?
Let's break down the important parts of this truce agreement:
Both Hamas and Israel have agreed to stop all military actions during the truce. This means no more attacks or arrests by the Israeli army in the Gaza Strip.
People will be able to move freely from the north to the south along Salah El-Din Street. This is great news for the people of Gaza who can now travel without any restrictions.
During the truce, there will be no air traffic in the south of Gaza. In the north, there will only be 6 hours of air traffic each day. Additionally, hundreds of trucks carrying humanitarian, relief, medical, and fuel aid will be allowed into all areas of the Gaza Strip. This will help the people who are in need of these essential supplies.
As part of the agreement, 50 women and children who were held hostage will be released by Hamas. In return, Israel will release 150 women and children who were imprisoned by them. This is a step towards peace and reuniting families.
The movement of Israeli military vehicles into the Gaza Strip will be stopped. This will help maintain peace and stability in the region.
What Does Hamas Say?
Hamas wants to make it clear that even though they have agreed to the truce, they are still ready to defend their people if needed. They negotiated from a position of strength and made sure the terms of the agreement serve their people and help them stand strong against aggression.
Israel's Response
The Israeli government, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has approved the deal. However, three extremist ministers from the Religious Zionism Party did not support it. This shows that not everyone is on board with the agreement, but the majority is in favor of it.
Prisoner Exchange
The military wing of Hamas, called the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, has been holding around 200 prisoners from Israel. These prisoners were captured during an operation called Al-Aqsa Flood. On the other hand, the Israeli bombing of the Gaza Strip has caused the loss of more than 60 Israeli prisoners. This exchange of prisoners is a significant part of the truce agreement.
