A Hospital in Crisis
Have you ever wondered how people survive without basic necessities like food, electricity, and water? This is the situation at Al-Shifa Medical Complex, where more than 7,000 people are struggling to survive.
A Plea for Help
Dr. Muhammad Abu Salamiya, the director of the hospital, recently spoke to Al Jazeera about the difficult conditions they are facing. The hospital has been occupied by Israeli soldiers, cutting off all communication with the outside world. This means no power and no internet.
A Desperate Situation
Dr. Abu Salamiya explained that everyone in the hospital is trapped and facing slow progress. Among the thousands of people inside, there are 750 wounded individuals, over 36 premature babies, 45 dialysis patients, and 5,000 displaced people.
A Hospital in Darkness
As soon as evening falls, the hospital is plunged into darkness. The electricity has been completely cut off, leaving the entire place pitch black. Imagine not being able to see anything around you!
Sounds of Destruction
The only sounds that can be heard in the hospital are the Israeli tanks and bulldozers wreaking havoc in the courtyards. The patients, in pain and suffering, cry out for help, but the medical staff can't find any treatment or medicine to ease their pain.
A Cry for Help
The situation is dire. The hospital has run out of sterile water and milk for the children. Everyone is starving, and many are showing signs of illness like vomiting, diarrhea, high fever, and severe dehydration. The medical staff is unable to help due to the power outage.
A Race against Time
Dr. Abu Salamiya warned that three premature babies have already lost their lives, and more will follow if they are not transferred to a place with proper medical care. The clock is ticking, and their lives are at stake.
A Thirsty Hospital
Water is a basic necessity, but Al-Shifa Hospital doesn't have any. People are desperate for a drop of water or even a piece of bread. The situation is so dire that it feels like the end of the world.
Trapped and Decomposing
Occupation soldiers who prevent anyone from moving between departments surround the hospital. As a result, the bodies of those who have passed away remain inside the hospital, unable to be buried. Their bodies have started to decompose, creating a terrible smell.
A Rotting Wound
Many of the wounded patients have wounds that are starting to rot. The doctors have no choice but to amputate some of their organs. However, they can't dispose of the amputated organs, causing a foul odor to fill the hospital.
