Demonstrators Demand Action for Gaza

While Anthony Blinken and Lloyd Austin, who are in charge of the US State and Defense departments were talking about giving more support to Israel and Ukraine, Some protesters showed up and started chanting to "save the children of Gaza" and to have a ceasefire in Gaza. They really wanted to make their voices heard!

Protesters Make a Powerful Statement

These protesters were really serious about their cause. They stood silently with their hands painted red, which was a symbol of the bloodshed happening in Gaza. They were sitting right behind Blinken and Austin, making sure they couldn't be ignored. Sometimes, they even stood up and chanted "Stop shooting now" and "Save the children of Gaza." One person even wore a jacket that said "Stop funding genocide." They wanted everyone to know how important this issue was to them.

Protesters Removed from the Hall

The protesters were so passionate that Blinken had to stop speaking a few times. The police had to come and remove them from the hall. It was a pretty intense moment!

Money for Israel

Why this session was happening in the first place. The President of the United States, Joe Biden, had asked Congress to approve giving more money to different places. He wanted to give $14.3 billion to support Israel, $9 billion for humanitarian relief in Israel and Gaza, $13.6 billion for US border security, and $4 billion to counter China's efforts in the Asia-Pacific region. He also wanted to give $61.4 billion to Ukraine, with half of that money being spent in the United States to replenish weapons stockpiles.

That's a lot of money, right? Well, some people agree with it, and some people don't. That's why these protesters were so upset. They wanted to make sure their voices were heard and that the money was being used in the right way.
