On September 8, 2024, at the Karama crossing that links Jordan and Palestine, the sound of three gunshots echoed, reminding us of a long history of struggle. Maher Diab Hussein Al-Jazi, a Jordanian truck driver from the village of Adhrah in Ma'an Governorate, was not a professional soldier, but he carried a will stronger than armies. With three bullets he fired at three "Israeli" soldiers, he killed them before he himself fell as a martyr. In just a few moments, this individual operation turned into an event that ignited the emotions of Jordanians, Palestinians, and all those who believe that the Palestinian cause is still alive.
Maher Al-Jazi, a son of the famous Al-Huwaitat tribe, was not the first to carry out a solo resistance operation, but he was part of a series of heroic operations that the region has witnessed recently. Just days earlier, at the beginning of September 2024, the Palestinian martyr Muhannad Al-Aswad carried out a heroic operation in Hebron, during which he killed three "Israeli" soldiers, reaffirming that individual resistance still poses a real threat to the occupation. Our memory also recalls the Egyptian soldier Mohamed Salah, who carried out an attack on the Egyptian border in June 2023, killing three "Israeli" soldiers.
Although these operations did not occur simultaneously, they illustrate how resistance is no longer confined to regular armies, but rather relies on individuals who carry the banner of dignity themselves. These heroes from Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan took upon themselves the task of defending the land and honor with their blood, affirming that the struggle against occupation continues.
In the streets of Amman, Jordanians took to the streets celebrating Al-Jazi's achievement, distributing sweets and singing in joy for this heroic operation. People saw in Maher a symbol of national dignity and a confirmation that the spirit of resistance is still alive, despite all attempts to impose normalization and subdue the peoples. These spontaneous celebrations were a natural reaction to what the martyr had done, as if saying loudly: "We are here and we will not forget."
Maher Al-Jazi, Muhannad Al-Aswad, and Mohamed Salah were not just ordinary individuals; they carried the cause of an entire nation on their shoulders and proved that resistance is not exclusive to armies, but is an individual will that is capable of causing earthquakes in the ranks of the enemy. These heroes have restored hope to the nation that there will always be those who stand against oppression, no matter how harsh the circumstances. Through their individual operations, they made a case against all who claim to be helpless and proved that those who wish to defend Palestine will find a way.
Despite ongoing attempts to silence the voice of resistance, whether through normalization agreements or repression campaigns, these individual operations remain a constant source of concern for the "Israeli" occupation. They are unpredictable and cannot be easily contained, making them more threatening than traditional military movements. The sight of a young man like Al-Jazi, acting without organizations or armies behind him, capable of having a significant impact, is what the enemy fears.
What the martyr Al-Jazi did at the Karama crossing was not just a resistance operation; it was a reminder to the entire nation that the enemy is clear, and the revenge is still alive. With his blood and the blood of others like him, the Palestinian right remains present, no matter how long-time passes.
