Insan Cham Charity in Melbourne, Australia... A Decade of Contributions

Despite being less than 10 years old, the Insan Cham charity has accomplished much in a short time. Its charitable work has not been limited to its local area but has reached far beyond it. Based in Melbourne, Australia, the charity directs its services and efforts toward poor and needy Muslims in Vietnam and Africa.
Al-Mujtama magazine
sought to learn more about this promising charity and its contributions to the
poor and needy. We met with Mrs. Mina Huynh, the Chairwoman of the charity's
Board of Directors.
Q: First, we would like you to introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Mina Huynh. I am of Chinese descent, but I was born
and raised in Vietnam. I was a Buddhist until God guided me to Islam. From that
day, I started this charity with some wealthy Muslim friends to help the poor
and needy in Australia and Vietnam, and then in all the areas our hands could
reach. Our charity operates officially in Melbourne, and its activities are
subject to government oversight. An annual financial report is submitted to the
relevant authorities here.
Q: Can you give us an overview of the Insan charity?
Yes, our charity was founded through a fruitful collaboration
between a number of honorable and well-to-do Muslims in Melbourne and Vietnam,
with the aim of helping the poor and needy.
Q: What is the charity's mission?
Our Islamic charity, based in Melbourne, is driven by a strong
commitment to humanitarian aid. We provide life-changing support to the most
vulnerable communities around the world, based on the values of compassion,
generosity, and unity. We stand by the elderly, the sick, teachers, orphans,
and struggling families. Our mission goes beyond immediate relief. We strive to
restore dignity, build resilience, and create lasting change through
sustainable development.
While our efforts are primarily focused on uplifting Muslim
communities, our compassion knows no bounds. We have proudly provided support
to non-Muslim communities in Vietnam, ensuring no one in need is left behind,
regardless of their religion or background.
Q: Can you tell us about some of the charity activities?
We have various activities and services that we have been able
to accomplish in a short time. They include:
- Building
Mosques: We have built one mosque in Tanzania, East
Africa, and another in Vietnam, which helped establish essential community
centers. We also renovated more than 10 mosques in Vietnam, which helped
restore places of worship and preserve cultural heritage.
- Shelters
for the Homeless: We have built more than 10 shelters for
needy families and orphans, providing them with safety and stability.
- Ramadan
Iftar and Zakat al-Fitr: We have supported Zakat
programs and Iftar meals during Ramadan to spread goodness and alleviate
hunger.
- Supporting
Teachers: We have consistently supported teacher
salaries for more than four years, helping to support the education of
thousands. We pay monthly fees for teachers to ensure the stability of
education in less fortunate areas. Through our specialized program, we support
125–130 teachers monthly, which contributes to building a better future
for countless students.
- Student
Aid: We have supported students in Africa and Vietnam with
basic resources, allowing them access to education and food. We provide
the necessary resources for food and education to students across Africa,
empowering future generations.
- Healthcare
Support: We cover hospital bills and provide medical
assistance to the sick and elderly.
- Food
Assistance: We distribute food packages, especially
during Ramadan, and provide disaster relief and Iftar meals for those
fasting.
- The
charity also accepts in-kind and financial donations throughout the year.
In recent years, it has been able to periodically purchase 15 cows
annually, slaughter them, and distribute their meat to the poor in Muslim
areas in Vietnam and some African countries, in addition to other food
items. It has also provided financial support, which is typically used for
education, helping disaster victims, and critical cases.
Q: Has the charity undertaken any recent activities?
Yes, thank God, the Insan
Cham charity collects funds every month and distributes cash envelopes to
Muslim teachers in Vietnam. On August 25th, the charity was able to distribute
aid to Muslim teachers in Vietnam, specifically in the An Giang province.
On behalf of our foundation, we would like to thank everyone
for their support of this program. May God reward you for your good deeds.
Q: Is there a message you would like to convey to Muslims in general?
Yes, our charity relies on donations from generous and
well-to-do individuals in Vietnam
and Melbourne. Day by day, our burdens and obligations increase. With your
support, we provide urgent relief and develop sustainable solutions to break
the cycle of poverty. While our mission contributes to the advancement of
Muslim communities, our compassion knows no bounds, and we have also provided
assistance to non-Muslim areas in Vietnam
to ensure no one is neglected.
Every donation nourishes our mission to support and uplift
those in need. Your generosity provides food, medical care, education, and
stability, making a sustainable difference. One act of kindness can change a
person's life.
