The Internet Battlefield
The 'Politics Today' website revealed that social media platforms were flooded with misleading information and fake news. This propaganda campaign was led by fake accounts that used lies and misinformation to deceive people all around the world.
Fake Accounts and Misleading Information
According to the report by Linda Shalash, Western media organizations and even heads of state repeated these false claims without verifying them. For example, Israel claimed that Hamas killed 40 Israeli children and beheaded them. These fake accounts suddenly appeared on the internet, attacking Hamas and the Palestinian resistance.
The Unusual Appearance of Fake Accounts
As a journalist and researcher specializing in diplomacy and digital media, Shalash explained that during times of war, the number of accounts on social media platforms increases. These accounts often impersonate Arab or unknown identities, place the flags of Arab countries next to the Israeli flag, and repeat the same story.
Mossad and Pallywood
Shalash also mentioned that the cyber war on fake accounts included accounts claiming to be affiliated with official Israeli bodies, such as an account pretending to be from the Israeli intelligence service (Mossad). However, this account was exposed as fake by a BBC journalist. Additionally, the term "Pallywood," which combines "Palestine" and "Hollywood," was used to discredit Palestinian stories and claim that their suffering was just a movie. During the war, a hashtag accusing Palestinians of faking their injuries and suffering in Gaza spread on social media.
Organized Propaganda Campaigns
An investigation conducted by the "Advanced Dimensions Innovative Contractors" company revealed the truth about many digital accounts attacking the Palestinian resistance and criticizing the Al-Aqsa Flood operation. This investigation, carried out in October 2023, showed that organized electronic committees were behind these accounts. These committees used the same phrases and emojis on multiple platforms to create fake public opinion.
Hasbara: Spreading Israeli Political Propaganda
These fake accounts operated under the supervision of organized committees or a specific party. This is similar to "Hasbara," a Hebrew term that means propaganda and disinformation. Hasbara is a program used to spread Israeli political propaganda worldwide, with support from the government and security agencies. It often targets Western opinion leaders and the general public.
