Field Difficulties and Failed Goals
International newspapers and magazines have been covering Israel's war on the Gaza Strip, highlighting various aspects of the conflict. One prominent French newspaper, Le Figaro, discussed the challenges faced by the Israeli army in Gaza. Despite claiming to have destroyed thousands of buildings and neutralized Hamas, the Islamic Resistance Movement, in the northern Gaza Strip, the Israeli army still encountered difficulties on the ground.
Le Figaro even compared the intensity of the battles in Gaza to historic conflicts like Stalingrad and Berlin, emphasizing the significance of this ongoing war.
Netanyahu's Lack of Planning
In an article published in the American Time magazine, writer Yasmine Sarhan criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for his lack of post-war planning. Sarhan argued that Netanyahu cannot confidently discuss the future, as he has not addressed the extreme calls to displace and reoccupy Gaza nor embraced moderate solutions. This indecisiveness reflects his political vulnerability and confusion.
Foreign Policy magazine also expressed concerns about Israeli officials pursuing policies that could lead to the forced removal of Gaza's population.
US President Biden's Role
According to writer Howard French, US President Joe Biden has the power to influence Israel's actions. French believes that Biden can still intervene, despite the poor track record of his administration in doing so. It is not too late for the US to rein in Israel and potentially bring about a change in the situation.
The Massacre of Journalists
The Washington Post highlighted the tragic killing of journalists in the Gaza Strip during Israel's war. Al Jazeera correspondent Wael Al-Dahdouh, who was killed, was described as a symbol of the disaster befalling Gaza and one of its most well-known faces. The article also mentioned the heart-wrenching messages exchanged between Al-Dahdouh and his son before his death, illustrating the immense suffering experienced by countless families in Gaza.
Biased Media Coverage
On the Orion 21 website, French writer Alain Grech and Tunisian Sarah Qorira analyzed the failures of Western media in covering the Gaza war. They pointed out intentional biases in terminology, descriptions, news arrangement, and wording, all of which ultimately strengthen the Israeli narrative. The writers also highlighted the contrast in how the Western media readily condemns conflicts like the Russian war on Ukraine.
