As I was getting ready to fly back to Kuwait from Istanbul, Turkey, I received some sad news. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah had passed away. Many Kuwaitis around me were feeling very sad. Even the pilot on the plane paid tribute to His Highness with a moment of silence. It is clear that people loved and respected him deeply. Why do they feel this way?
The Secret to His Highness's Popularity
The answer to these questions lies in the character of the late Prince Nawaf Al-Ahmad. When someone is close to Allah, they find acceptance among the people. A saying of the Prophet, peace be upon him, supports this, "When Allah loves a servant, He calls out to Gabriel: Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.' And Gabriel loves him, so he calls out to the people of heaven: Allah loves so-and-so, so love him.' Then acceptance will be granted to him on earth."
A Humble and Caring Leader
Sheikh Nawaf was not known for his wealth or power like some otherworld leaders. Instead, he was famous for his humility and love for people. He once said, "We are weaker when the old and the needy suffer." Let's not forget the great initiatives he took during his life. One of the most honorable acts was his forgiveness. When he pardoned and made amends, it brought people together and touched many lives.
A Message to the Future
Before his passing, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf had some wise words for his successor, His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. He said, "Take care of the citizens and their well-being." It is clear that Sheikh Meshal is the best person to continue the great work of his predecessor.
An Immortal Legacy
Sheikh Nawaf's impact on the Arab world will never be forgotten. He played a crucial role in resolving the previous Gulf crisis, and we hope there will be no more conflicts in the future. His strong stance on important Arab issues, such as Palestine and Jerusalem, shows the world the values of Kuwait. The relief efforts led by Sheikh Nawaf, especially in Gaza, were a testament to his leadership and compassion.
A Final Farewell
May Allah have mercy on Sheikh Nawaf and grant him the highest paradise. We say goodbye to a great leader, knowing that he has left a lasting legacy. "To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return."
