Netanyahu Rejects International Court's Decision
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not happy with the International Court of Justice's decision to consider South Africa's lawsuit accusing Israel of genocide. However, he has vowed to continue the war on Gaza, stating that the court did not order a ceasefire.
Israel's Right to Defend Itself
Netanyahu believes that Israel has the right to defend itself. He criticized the court for not responding to South Africa's request to issue an order to stop the shooting. He called the allegation of genocide against Palestinians false and heinous, and believes that the court's willingness to discuss this matter is a stain that will last for generations.
Ministers' Reactions
Although Netanyahu asked his ministers not to comment on the court's decision, some of them still made statements attacking the court.
Minister Itamar Ben Gvir's Accusation
Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, leader of the far-right Jewish Power party, accused the court of being "anti-Semitic." He believes that the court does not seek justice and that decisions threatening Israel's existence should not be listened to. He emphasized the need to defeat the enemy until complete victory.
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's Comment
Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, leader of the Religious Zionism Party, suggested that the judges of The Hague should focus on helping rebuild Gaza instead of making decisions that concern the residents of Gaza.
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's Response
Defense Minister Yoav Gallant criticized the International Court of Justice for giving "morality lectures" and interfering in Israel's actions in Gaza. He described South Africa's lawsuit as anti-Semitic and emphasized the continuation of the war in Gaza.
Court's Ruling
The International Court of Justice ruled that temporary measures should be imposed on Israel to prevent genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and to address immediate humanitarian needs. However, it did not issue a ceasefire order.
