The Israeli Minister of Jerusalem Affairs and Heritage, Amichai Eliyahu, has once again made a shocking brutal statement. He suggested dropping a nuclear weapon on the Gaza Strip, as reported by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
Repetition of the Statement
During a visit to the city of Hebron in the West Bank, Eliyahu reiterated his previous statement. He even mentioned that the International Court of Justice, which is examining genocide cases against Israel, is aware of his views.
Condemnation from South Africa
South Africa has included Eliyahu's previous statement as an invitation to commit genocide in Gaza. This has further fueled the controversy surrounding his remarks.
The Initial Statement
Eliyahu first made the statement about bombing Gaza with a nuclear bomb in November of last year. This caused widespread objection and criticism at the international level.
Legal Proceedings
The International Court of Justice in The Hague held public hearings on January 11 and 12 to consider the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Israel. The lawsuit accuses Israel of committing genocide crimes against Palestinians in Gaza.
The Ongoing Conflict
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has been engaged in a devastating war in the Gaza Strip. The conflict has resulted in a high number of casualties, including 25,490 deaths and 63,354 injuries, mostly among children and women, according to Palestinian authorities. The United Nations has also reported massive destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis in the region.
