Humanitarian Crisis
Gaza, Palestine, is currently facing a severe humanitarian crisis. The continuous bombing by Israel has resulted in widespread destruction and suffering for the people living there. In this blog post, we will explore the devastating impact of the conflict on Gaza's residents.
Starvation and Lack of Water
The head of the government information office in Gaza, Salama Marouf, has stated that Israel is waging a starvation war on the people of Gaza. The residents, including children, are experiencing signs of malnutrition and dehydration. The amount of aid entering Gaza is not enough to meet the urgent needs of the population. Additionally, potable water has been lost by more than 90%, forcing people to resort to seawater, which can cause diseases.
Lack of Electricity
Gaza is also facing a severe electricity crisis. The ongoing Israeli war has destroyed 70% of the electricity transmission and distribution networks in the region. This has resulted in a loss of over $80 million in the electricity sector. The lack of electricity further exacerbates the already dire situation in Gaza.
Damaged Hospitals
More than 40% of hospitals in Gaza have stopped serving due to the conflict. This has created a major healthcare crisis for the residents. The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health in Gaza, Ashraf Al-Qudra, has called for the protection of hospitals from the occupation forces. He also emphasized the need for humanitarian corridors to allow aid, fuel, and medical teams to enter and wounded individuals to exit.
Destruction of Housing Units
The attacks on Gaza have caused the destruction or damage of 45% of all housing units in the region. This has resulted in the displacement of 1.5 million people, including United Nations employees. The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of expression, Irene Khan, has described the destruction of civilian homes and infrastructure as an international war crime. She called on the world to take immediate action to end the attacks on civilian housing and infrastructure.
The situation in Gaza is dire, with residents facing starvation, lack of water and electricity, and damaged hospitals. The international community must come together to address this humanitarian crisis and work towards a peaceful resolution. It is crucial to protect the lives and well-being of the people in Gaza.
