Sri Lanka lost one of the figures of Islamic advocacy and thought last Friday, March 29, 2024. God destined for him a blessed ending in the blessed month, as the deceased spent his life for the sake of the Islamic religion.

Professor Sheikh Muhammad Ibrahim Hassan Lebbe died last Friday, March 29. We ask God to have mercy on him and grant him paradise.

The Sri Lankan Muslim community in the State of Kuwait, in coordination with the Islamic Cooperation Office of the Social Reform Society, held a condolence reception for the Sheikh on Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Society’s office, during which Professor  Agar Muhammad, Rector of Islamic university of Naleemiah in Sri Lanka, the guest of the community in the last ten days of Ramadan, gave a speech about the deceased.

Born in 1937 in Uyanwatte, Sheikh Ibrahim began his education at the village school and later joined Maharagama Ghafooriya Arabic College. He established ties with the Sri Lanka Jamaathe Islami.

  • He joined the teaching profession under the ministry of Education and studied Arabic under Professor S.A. Imam at the University of Peradeniya.
  • After his degree results, he was appointed as a lecturer in Arabic and Islamic Civilization at the University of Kelaniya and then at the University of Peradeniya.
  • Sheikh Ibrahim joined the Sri Lanka Jamaat-e-Islami in 1957 and was appointed its General Secretary in 1958. He held several important positions in Jamaat, including the Ameer of the Jamaath from 1976 to 1982.
  • After retirement, he held the position of deputy Ameer and dedicated himself to establishing two important educational institutions.
  • Sheikh Ibrahim is a founder member of the International Islamic Charity Organization (IICO) and acted as the student counsellor of the Islamic Development Bank Scholarship program in Sri Lanka.
  • He held the post of Vice President of the All Ceylon Jamiatul Ulema, the umbrella organization of Muslim theologians in the country.
  • He contributed to university and national education curricula related to Islam and Islamic Civilization and served as the chief examiner for these subjects for the G.C.E. Advanced Level and Ordinary Level examinations conducted by the Department of Examinations under the Ministry of Education.
  • He was a pioneer in the Islamic religious education sector in Sri Lanka, leading to the establishment of institutions such as Madampe Islahiya Arabic College, Puttalam Islaahiya Ladies College, and Tanweer Academy.
  • He established the Serendib Institute for Research and Development (SIRD) and served as its head for several years.
  • He was the Chief Editor of the monthly publication of the Jamaat 'Al Hasanath' and spearheaded the formation of an umbrella organization of the Muslim civil society organizations named Ittihadul Muslimeen.
  • Despite his long involvement with the Jamaat-e-Islami, he never accepted any remuneration for his services.

As Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” enters its 178th day, while the Palestinian resistance continues to confront enemy forces, the Zionist occupation continues to commit the crime of genocide in the Gaza Strip.

Targeting “Eilat”

The occupation army announced, at dawn on Monday, that a building in the city of Eilat, south of the occupied territories, was damaged in a drone attack.

A statement by the occupation army said, “One of the buildings was slightly damaged in a drone attack in Eilat, but there were no casualties in the incident,” according to what was reported by Hebrew media.

The occupation army added that its soldiers identified “a suspicious air target that entered Israeli territory from the east and landed in the Gulf of Eilat (Aqaba) area.”

Hebrew media reported that a drone targeted a “naval base in Eilat,” according to the Palestinian Information Center.

Meanwhile, the “Islamic Resistance in Iraq” claimed responsibility for the attack, in a statement.

“Al-Shifa Medical” Massacre

Medical sources reported that hundreds of bodies of martyrs were found in Al-Shifa Medical Complex and in the streets and roads surrounding it, west of Gaza City.

The sources confirmed that the buildings of the Al-Shifa Complex were burned and completely out of service, noting that the extent of the destruction in the complex and surrounding buildings was very large.

The occupation forces withdrew completely from the Shifa complex at dawn on Monday after a two-week operation during which the occupation forces launched a massive attack on the complex and its surrounding areas.

The government media office in Gaza said, in a press statement: The “Israeli” occupation army committed crimes of destroying, burning, and targeting 1,050 homes in the vicinity of the Shifa Medical Complex, killing more than 400 martyrs, and arresting and torturing hundreds of patients, displaced people, and medical staff inside and around the complex.

The Gaza Civil Defense spokesman indicated that the majority of the bodies were decomposed, and some were skeletons, as a result of being burned inside the Al-Shifa Complex.

While the occupation forces admitted that they killed 200 Palestinians, arrested 500 others, and detained about 900 people and subjected them to investigation during their storming of the Shifa Medical Complex in the Gaza Strip and its surroundings.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza appealed to all international and international institutions and the international community to make efforts to restart Nasser Hospital and provide protection to health institutions.

They also said that the absence of Nasser Hospital from service is   a severe blow to the health service, which has shrunk to its lowest levels and deprives patients of access to therapeutic services, especially after the loss of the bulk of services in the northern Gaza Strip.

For its part, the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas” said that the horrific crime that unfolded on Monday morning, after the occupation army withdrew from the “Al-Shifa” complex and its surroundings in Gaza, “confirms the nature of this fascist entity rogue from the values of civilization and humanity.”

In a statement, Hamas held “the American administration and President Biden personally fully responsible for the crimes, massacres, and systematic destruction of civilian life in the Gaza Strip that have occurred and are occurring.”

Hamas pointed out that at the top of that is “the health sector and hospitals, which is done with American weapons, and all forms of military and political support and assistance.”

They stressed that the extent of the destruction and killing in which the enemy excels. This does not mean achieving any victory over the will of our people as they cling to their land and identity. This barbaric attack on the Gaza Strip once again confirms the reality of what the enemy seeks to push our people to emigrate from their land in implementation of his plans to liquidate the Palestinian cause.

The movement called on the international community and the United Nations to “condemn this terrible crime committed by the criminal Zionist enemy against the Al-Shifa Complex, its surroundings, and the citizens therein, and we call on them to take immediate action to enter Gaza City and see the extent of the crime to which it was subjected.”

It also called on “international judicial bodies, especially the International Criminal Court, to begin actual procedures to investigate the crimes and atrocities that occurred in the Al-Shifa Medical Complex and its surroundings... and to implement their assigned mission to hold the leaders of this entity accountable and bring them to justice.”

Failed infiltration into Gaza

 The Home Front in the Gaza Strip revealed the infiltration of officers and soldiers from the General Intelligence Service in Ramallah on an official mission under direct orders from the Palestinian General Intelligence Service's head, Major General Majid Faraj, in what it described as an intelligence operation.

The Front confirmed that the security services in Gaza dealt with these elements, arresting 10 of them and foiling the plan for which they came.

She said that their goal was to create a state of confusion and chaos among the ranks of the home front, and that they infiltrated with security from the Israeli Shin Bet and the enemy army after an agreement was reached between the two parties in their meeting in one of the Arab capitals last week.

Hamas stressed that “everyone who dares to play in a square that only serves the occupation will be struck with an iron fist.”

New Death Toll from the Occupation army

The number of soldiers and officers killed by the Palestinian resistance has risen since the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.

The occupation army said that a soldier from the 77th Battalion, named Nadav Cohen, who held the rank of sergeant, was killed in the battles of the Gaza Strip during the last hours, thus bringing the number of deaths in the occupation army since October 7 to 600 soldiers and officers.

Of these, 264 were killed since the start of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip in late October.

The Palestinian health ministry reported that 71 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes across the Gaza Strip, with 112 others wounded. Israeli forces continued their raid on al-Shifa Hospital for the 12th day, burning and demolishing several buildings. Medical sources said that Israeli forces continue to hold 160 Palestinians, including medical staff, in the Human Development building in the al-Shifa complex.

In Deir al-Balah, Israeli warships opened fire at Palestinian homes on the beachfront. In Al-Maghazi refugee camp, an Israeli strike on the Mousa family home killed six people, including both parents and four children, wounding several of their neighbors. The Israeli army released 102 Palestinians who were detained from the Gaza Strip and held in Israeli custody for several days and weeks. Nine of the released are paramedics who worked for the society and who were detained for 46 days. Three of the released were taken to some of the few remaining operating hospitals in Gaza to be treated from the effects of torture.  Security Council resolution to Cease Fire

For the first time, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, more than 5 months after the Israeli war, while the United States refrained from using its veto this time.

The resolution presented by non-permanent members of the Security Council calls for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, stressing the urgent need to increase aid and demanding the removal of all obstacles to its delivery.

The resolution was adopted with the approval of 14 of the 15 Council members, with the United States abstaining from voting.

Hamas welcomes

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) welcomed the Security Council's decision, stressing the necessity of reaching a permanent ceasefire that would lead to the withdrawal of the occupation with all its forces and the return of the displaced.

Hamas also called on the Security Council to pressure the occupation to adhere to the ceasefire and the war of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinians, expressing its readiness to engage in an immediate prisoner exchange.

Netanyahu is Angry with America

The Israeli Prime Minister's office said that Benjamin Netanyahu canceled the visit of an Israeli delegation to Washington, following America's abstention from voting on the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council.

The Bureau described what happened as "a clear retreat from the United States' consistent position in the Security Council since the start of the war."

For its part, the White House said that the Israeli government’s decision not to send a delegation to Washington to exchange views on an operation in Rafah was “disappointing,” while the Pentagon said that the meeting of the US Secretary of Defense with his Israeli counterpart in the Pentagon on Tuesday still took place, and that the visit of the Israeli Defense Minister Separate from the visit of the Israeli delegation to the White House.

Gideon Sa'ar Resigns from the Emergency Government

Israeli Minister Gideon Sa'ar announced his resignation from the emergency government, saying that he would not be able to bear responsibility as long as he had no influence, stressing that he did not come to the government to warm the chairs.

Sa'ar warned that slowing down the military advance in Gaza means prolonging the war, and this is against Israel's interest, he said.

107 Martyrs in 11 Massacres

The Ministry of Health in the Gaza Strip said that the Israeli occupation army committed 11 massacres during the last 24 hours, claiming 107 martyrs and 176 wounded. It also continued its siege of several hospitals and intensified its bombing of Beit Lahia and Jabalia.

In the middle of the Gaza Strip, the people of Deir al-Balah mourned 22 martyrs who fell in a massacre committed by the occupation forces in the center of the city, by bombing the Salman family home, which claimed dozens of lives, including martyrs, wounded and missing.

Al-Qassam Bombs Ashdod

The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, fired a batch of rockets at the city of Ashdod, north of the Gaza Strip.

 

The Al-Qassam Brigades said that it "bombed occupied Ashdod with a missile salvo in response to the targeting of civilians in the Gaza Strip."

For its part, Israeli Army Radio said that two of the eight rockets fired from Gaza towards Ashdod were intercepted.

Other Israeli media also reported that the rockets were fired from the central Gaza Strip, specifically from the Deir al-Balah area.

The Al-Quds Brigades - the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement - also announced that it had bombed Ashkelon and the Gaza Strip with a missile barrage.

The Israeli army said that sirens sounded in Ashkelon and Zikim.

Dozens of settlers stormed the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque to celebrate the Jewish holiday of Purim, and the occupation forces escalated their campaigns of arrests and raids in the West Bank.

The Israeli army said that it carried out a raid targeting Hezbollah fighters in the Mays al-Jabal area in southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah said that it bombed the Al-Malikiyah and Zibdin sites with artillery shells, confirming that it struck them “directly.”

Israeli Aggressions on Lebanon

A Lebanese security source said on Monday that a Hamas leader survived an Israeli drone strike yesterday on the town of Al-Suwairi in the western Bekaa in eastern Lebanon, near the border with Syria.

A Syrian citizen was killed in the raid, who was working in a store in this town, which is 5 kilometers from the border between Lebanon and Syria, according to the Lebanese News Agency.

The Lebanese security source explained that the raid was targeting a Hamas leader who was passing on the road where the strike occurred, but he survived it.

On Friday, Spain said that it had agreed with Ireland, Malta and Slovenia to take the first steps towards recognizing the state declared by the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
