Consequences of the Al-Maghazi Ambush
On the 109th day of the Israeli war on Gaza, something big happened. The Al-Maghazi ambush took place, and it had a major impact. The Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, a group in Gaza, carried out a complex operation that resulted in the killing of 21 Israeli officers and soldiers. This was a significant blow to the Israeli army.
Israeli Casualties
The Israeli army confirmed that 21 officers and soldiers were killed in the ambush. This was the most difficult operation for Israel since the ground invasion of Gaza began on October 27. On the other hand, the Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that the total number of casualties from the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Strip since October 7 has risen to 25,490, with 63,354 people injured.
Al-Qassam Brigades' Operation
The Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of Hamas, explained that they carried out a combined operation east of the Maghazi camp. They targeted a house where an Israeli force was located, causing an explosion of the ammunition inside. They also detonated a minefield, killing or injuring members of another Israeli force. Additionally, they destroyed a Merkava tank with a Yassin 105 shell.
The Israeli Narrative
Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy conducted a preliminary investigation into the Al-Maghazi ambush. According to the investigation, Palestinian fighters fired RPG shells at two buildings that had been booby-trapped by the Israeli force. The buildings collapsed, killing the officers and soldiers inside. The fighters also fired a shell at an Israeli tank, killing two soldiers. The fighters were able to escape after the attack.
Israeli Leaders Express Pain
Israeli officials expressed their sadness and pain after the announcement of the killing of 24 officers and soldiers in the Gaza Strip. In a joint statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, and War Council member Benny Gantz expressed their condolences and vowed to continue striving for victory.
Fierce Battles in Khan Yunis
Battles intensified in Khan Yunis, a city in the south of the Gaza Strip. The Israeli army launched an attack to besiege the city's camp, with the participation of several battalions. The battles were concentrated in different areas, including the Al-Mawasi area, the vicinity of Al-Aqsa University, and the Al-Amal and Al-Maskar neighborhoods.
Israel's Proposal for a Deal
Israel presented a proposal to Hamas regarding a new deal to release detainees in Gaza in exchange for a temporary halt to the war. The proposal includes changing the army's deployment in the Gaza Strip and withdrawing from some areas. However, the resistance has insisted on a complete end to the aggression before considering an exchange deal.
Hezbollah's Response
Lebanese Hezbollah bombed the most important Israeli air control base near the border with Lebanon for the second time in weeks. They launched 20 shells in response to recent assassinations and attacks on Lebanese villages. The Israeli army reported minor damage to the base as a result of the shells fired from Lebanon.
