Qatari Foreign Ministry: The first batch of prisoners from both sides arrived to their families
The Qatari Foreign Ministry announced that the first group of prisoners from both sides in Gaza have been reunited with their families.
Last Friday evening, Israel released 39 Palestinian women and children, while Hamas released 13 Israeli women and children, 10 Thais, and one Filipino. This happened because of a special agreement called a humanitarian truce. The State of Qatar, along with Egypt and the United States, helped make this agreement happen.
How Did It Work?
The International Committee of the Red Cross made sure that the Israelis safely left Gaza as part of the agreement. They also helped release 10 Thai citizens and one Filipino citizen who were not part of the truce agreement. The Red Cross is an organization that helps people in need all around the world.
What about Aid?
Good news! Aid trucks carrying important supplies and help for the people in Gaza were able to cross the border and reach those who need it. This is really important because the people in Gaza have been going through a tough time, and they need all the help they can get.
Qatar's Role
The State of Qatar played a big role in making this happen. They talked directly to both sides and the International Committee of the Red Cross to make sure everything went smoothly. Qatar is also keeping a close eye on the situation and helping with any issues that might come up.
What's Next?
The truce agreement includes a 4-day ceasefire, the release of 50 Israeli prisoners from Gaza, and the release of 150 Palestinians from Israeli prisons. It also allows hundreds of trucks filled with important things like food, medicine, and fuel to enter Gaza. Qatar hopes that this truce will lead to a permanent ceasefire in the future.
