Dozens of American Celebrities Speak Out
A recent article in the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz revealed that 55 influential figures in the American entertainment industry have signed an open letter urging US President Joe Biden to work towards a ceasefire between Israel and Gaza. They also called for the release of the kidnappers involved.
Famous Artists Unite
The letter was signed by well-known artists such as Cate Blanchett, Joaquin Phoenix, Susan Sarandon, Jon Stewart, Kristen Stewart, Maharshala Ali, and Riz Ahmed. These celebrities are using their platform to bring attention to the ongoing conflict.
UNICEF's Concern
The letter also included a comment from James Alder, a spokesperson for UNICEF (United Nations Children's Fund). Alder highlighted the devastating impact of the Israeli Air Force's airstrikes on Gaza, including power and water outages. He expressed concern for the families and children in Gaza who are suffering without basic necessities like food, electricity, and medicine.
International Support for Palestine
This message of peace joins another one published by a group of British artists called "For Palestine." Signatories of this letter include Tilda Swinton, Michael Winterbottom, Maryam Margulies, Mike Lee, and Asif Kapadia. They not only called for a ceasefire but also accused the British government of turning a blind eye to war crimes and providing assistance to them.
Furthermore, thousands of artists, exhibition organizers, and international artist organizations have distributed an open letter expressing their support for the Palestinians. They demand an end to the killing and harm of all citizens, immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza, and accountability for human rights violations and war crimes.
Continued Bombings and Devastation
Despite these calls for peace, the occupation planes continue to bomb the Gaza Strip for the sixteenth consecutive day. They have targeted homes and even a mosque in the Jenin refugee camp. The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported a staggering number of casualties, with 4,385 martyrs, including 1,756 children and 967 women, and over 13,561 wounded.
