The year 2022 was a very eventful year for Muslims and Islamic World. In this article, we will take a look at some events that happened in 2022 from a Muslim perspective.

1- Kaaba Reopened for all Pilgrims

In March 2022, Saudi Ministry abolished the social distancing rule in Masjid al-Haram and Masjid an-Nabawi and allowed Muslims to offer Prayers without following social distancing rules. After 2 years, Govt. had also allowed many Muslims to observe Itakaaf in both Grand Mosques during the last 10 days of Ramadan.

2- Muslim Population of the World Reaches 2 Billion

According to the stats shared by worldpopulationreview.com, the Muslim population in the world has now reached 2 Billion people. Islam the second-largest religion in the world, is exceeded only by Christianity. In fact, many researchers project that Muslims will outnumber Christians by 2050.

3- FIFA World Cup 2022

FIFA World Cup 2022 was an extraordinary event for Muslim Community around the world as not only Qatar became the Muslim country ever to host this mega sporting event but Saudi Arabia beat football giant Argentina and Morocco also qualified for the semi-final of the world cup.

4- 1st Mosque Opened in Venice

In June 2022, the inauguration of Venice’s 1st Mosque took place. It means that the one of most visited cities in the world now has a dedicated place of worship for thousands of Muslims living in the area.

5- Famous Kickboxer Andrew Tate Accepted Islam

British-American kickboxer Andrew Tate has converted to Islam. He shared a post on a social media platform and announced that he has become a Muslim. A video of him praying in a mosque also went viral on social media platforms.

6- Basketball Player Kyrie Irving Accepted Islam

Famous American basketball player Kyrie Irving announced last year that he has converted to Islam. He even fasted during the month of Ramadan.

7- Karim Benzema won the 2022 Ballon d'Or

French Muslim Footballer Karim Benzema won the most prestigious individual award in men's football Ballon d’Or after a sensational 2021-22 season with Real Madrid. He became the 1st Muslim footballer in the last two decades to win the award after Zinedine Zidane in 1998 and the 3rd Muslim footballer ever to win the prestigious trophy.

8- 1st Muslim Mayor of Hamtramck, Michigan

In January 2022, Amer Ghalib became the 1st Muslim mayor of Hamtramck, a city in Wayne County, Michigan, USA alongside three new council members who are all also Muslim.

9- 1st Muslim Woman appointed as Federal Judge in the USA

In January 2022, President Joe Biden nominated Nusrat Choudhury, the 1st Muslim woman to serve as a federal judge in the Eastern District of New York.
