Turkey’s soldiers are the only ones preventing the possible slaughter of millions of Syrians at the hands of the Bashar al-Assad regime’s forces, The New York Times said Tuesday.

“As an end to the decade-long Syrian civil war still confounds the world, Turkey has become the only international force on the ground protecting some five million displaced and vulnerable civilians," said an article titled "In Turkey’s Safe Zone in Syria, Security and Misery Go Hand in Hand."

The article, written by Carlotta Gall, the Istanbul bureau chief for The New York Times who covers Turkey for the newspaper, said "Turkey was widely criticized when it sent forces into Syria."

"But today, the Syrians they protect are glad the Turks are there, despite their hardship," said Gall.

She said it is Turkish troops "that stand between them and potential slaughter at the hands of President Bashar al-Assad’s forces and those of his Russian allies."

The report cited a once wealthy landowner from Damascus as saying that he wanted to stay in Turkey as long as Assad rules the war-torn country.

"We won’t go back to our villages until Turkey gives us protection. Without the Turks, we cannot survive," he said.

Syria has been ravaged by a civil war since early 2011, when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protesters.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and more than 10 million displaced, according to UN estimates./aa

Political analysts believe that the situation in Xinjiang is gruesome and the response from the global community is sneaky. Countries around the world don’t want to affect their ties with economically durable China.

China has a long history of Uyghur discrimination but World has a role to play. The Xinjiang autonomous region in China is facing the worst kind of cultural and ethnic genocide. There is a long history of dissonance between the indigenous ethnic Uyghur and Chinese authorities.

The Chinese government refuses to categorise Uyghurs as an indigenous population and describe Uyghurs as a regional minority. One among China’s fifty-five ethnic minorities, Uyghurs are a Turkic ethnic group originating from central and eastern Asia.

China is facing criticism and worldwide condemnation over its unkind and harsh treatment towards the Uyghur Muslims. A Uyghur-Kazakh citizen, Gulbahar Jelilova reported that she was ruthlessly beaten and raped while in custody.

Stew Chao, a journalist working with Aljazeera reported that Abduveli Ayup-prominent Uyghur writer, activist and Uyghur language defender was put in a detention center and later brutally tortured.

Evidence suggests that China is systematically targeting Uyghur Muslims through a state-planned birth control process. Zumrat Dawut and Kalbinur Sidik who survived from Chinese detention camps narrated that Uyghur women who conceive more than three children are forcefully sterilised.

Women survivors from these camps narrated that they were beaten, raped, and given mystery injections. A ground study from Concentration camp survivors suggest that Chinese authorities have adopted brutal methods to stop new Uighur births. Forced pregnancy checks, medications that stop menstruation, forced abortions, sterilizations, IUDs (Intrauterine contraceptive devices), and mystery injections are given to Uyghur women by Chinese officials to stop new births.

Person to person outreach suggested that people who were imprisoned and kept in so-called education camps experienced the worst kind of brutalities. People are mercilessly beaten, tortured, and interrogated. Authorities beat them ruthlessly, torture them with electric shocks, and pull-off their nails. They are accused of crimes they never committed. Muslims in Xingang are not only facing physical carnage but are downgraded and lowered psychologically as well. Uighur Muslim minorities confined in camps were forced to criticize their faith and basic Islamic values. They are forced to recite communist party propaganda and criticize Islam as part of the indoctrination process.

Chinese authorities claim that these camps have benefited millions of workers through educational and vocational training. However, according to testimony from survivors these so-called education camps are the worst places so far as human rights violations are concerned.

Uyghur Muslims are detained unlawfully for inconsequential matters like publishing a story ten years ago or learning the Quran and its interpretations long ago. Some survivors from detention camps revealed that they were detained because of traveling abroad and some detained just on the charges of learning Uyghur history.

Political analysts believe that the situation in Xinjiang is gruesome and the response from the global community is sneaky. Countries around the world didn’t want to affect their ties with economically durable China. However, as a positive development recently MPs in the UK voiced out against human rights violations in Xinjiang and urged British officials and athletes to respond by not taking part in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics.

From the last few years, Chinese atrocities and human rights violations have surged. Muslims in Xingang are not only facing physical carnages but are downgraded and lowered psychologically as well. A strong international response is required to push back China’s attack on human dignity.

President Joe Biden reaffirmed the US agenda to counter China on human rights abuses and levelled a series of attacks on China’s alleged human rights abuses during his first phone call as president with Xi Jinping. The statement has come as a hope for the Uyghurs movement. The Uyghur movement has received Western attention and support from western governments that have internationalized the issue. Support from different communities, organizations, and individuals have improved the movement. They have support all over the world, of course at the expense of the life of Uyghurs.

Since 1949, China is using the policy of racial discrimination, mass killing, and jailing in the pretext of national security. ETIM is used by CCP as an excuse and justification for their oppressive policies, especially the Nazi-style concentration camps in East Turkistan.

China is the country that politicizes its investment and mutual cooperation to get its political goals fulfilled. It seems China bought the silence of many countries, most of them Muslims and underdeveloped dictator countries by using Chinese money. Even the US sees the economic interest over human rights to some extent.

The Uyghur movement gained power with the support of Western governments like the US, UK, Turkey. In addition to these countries Human rights organizations of Jews working in the UK and the inter-parliamentary alliance in China, certain advocacy groups such as the World Uyghur Congress, IHH in Turkey are making efforts to organize both Uyghur and non-Uyghur groups to achieve their goals.

What is more important is the need for more Uyghur advocators, international platforms, and support from international organizations. Countries need to open their diplomatic gates so that the Chinese state urgently evolves a political architecture that will allow the Uyghur to maintain their identity and peacefully co-exist with the Hans. However, world communities really should not oppose secular movements for the reassertion of basic political, individual, and religious rights- especially if such movements are peaceful.

China needs to rethink its policies and bring about political changes that are accommodative towards its minority nationalities. The Uyghur movement seems to have lost its momentum by the Chinese repression and strike hard campaign but at the same time, the international campaigns for Uyghur rights and possible independence have become increasingly vocal and well organised. The Uyghur community survives among the diaspora that spread across central Asia and Europe. They can influence different policies in different parliaments of the world towards their interest.

Individual supporters, activists need financial help to stop China. The Xinjiang independence movement that seeks independence of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region needs proper guidance and international support. OIC members are being cowed by China’s power and are accused of abetting China’s Uyghur genocide.

It is very clear that China has an economic chokehold on the Muslim world and is really fearful of paying even lip service to the Uyghur cause.

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Malaysia’s government will repatriate 1,200 Myanmar migrants next week despite a military coup in their home country, but has assured that they will not include minority Muslim Rohingya refugees or those registered with the U.N. refugee agency.

But the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees voiced concern Tuesday that there may be vulnerable women and children among the group. Myanmar’s leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, was detained as the military seized power on Feb. 1, sparking protests in the country.

Malaysia’s immigration chief, Khairul Dzaimee Daud, said in a statement late Monday that the detainees will be deported Feb. 23 on Myanmar navy ships.

He said the 1,200 were held for offenses including not having valid travel documents, overstaying and violating their social visit passes.

“There are no UNHCR cardholders or ethnic Rohingya involved in the repatriation. It is just part of a usual program to deport immigrants in our detention depots,” Khairul Dzaimee said.

The department said Malaysia repatriated 37,038 migrants last year, including 3,322 from Myanmar. This was down from 59,114 in 2019, as many countries shut their borders due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it added.

The UNHCR said it has been barred from accessing Malaysia’s immigration detention centers since August 2019 and was unable to verify who needs protection.

“We are concerned that there remains in detention in Malaysia a number of people, including vulnerable women and children, who may be in need of international protection but whose claims have not been verified and thus do not have the requisite UNHCR documentation,” the UNHCR said.

“If found to be in need of international protection, these individuals should not be deported to a situation where their lives or freedoms may be at risk,” it said.

Malaysia is home to some 180,000 U.N. refugees and asylum seekers — including more than 100,000 Rohingya and other Myanmar ethnic groups.

More than 700,000 Rohingya have fled from Myanmar since August 2017, when the military launched a clearance operation in response to attacks by a rebel group. The security forces have been accused of mass rapes, killings and the burning of thousands of homes.

Pakistan's Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday accused India of nuclearizing the Indian Ocean and said the New Delhi government, in the pursuit of hegemonic designs, inducted advanced weapons systems and delivery platforms into its naval arsenals.

Speaking at the International Maritime Conference in the southern port city of Karachi, Qureshi said his country will continue to take all necessary measures to ensure its security and to maintain credible minimum deterrence, a statement from the Foreign Ministry said.

"The Indian Ocean offers promising potential for mutual cooperation and collaboration. But geostrategic competition and the pursuit of military dominance by some states have gravely jeopardized that potential," Qureshi said.

The foreign minister blamed that India’s belligerent and aggressive policies in particular, posed an immediate and pervasive threat to international and regional peace and security.
"The international community needs be cognizant of the fact that any military conflict in South Asia could endanger stability in a region that is critical for global trade flows and security," the minister said.

The conference was part of a week-long multinational naval exercise hosted by Pakistan, which began on Friday in the Arabian Sea.

With the participation of some 45 countries, including the US, Russia, China, and Turkey, significantly, this is the first time in a decade that Moscow has joined a military drill with NATO members. The last such time was the Brazen Monarch exercise off the coast of Spain in 2011.

China-Pakistan Economic Corridor

The foreign minister termed the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the development of Gwadar Port as game-changing projects that further enhanced the geo-economic significance of Pakistan.

"The Gwadar Port, which occupies a strategic location overlooking the Strait of Hormuz and the North Arabian Sea has the potential to develop into a full-fledged regional hub and a trans-shipment port," Qureshi said.

The $64 billion CPEC – a network of roads, railroads, and pipelines – aims to link China's strategically important northwestern province of Xinxiang to the distant Gwadar port of Balochistan.

While the corridor will give China easy access to Africa and the Mideast, it will make Pakistan earn billions of dollars and spur business activities along the road network replacing the fabled Silk Road.

"Gwadar Port also provides new vistas for businesses. Extraction of life-saving medicines, coastal tourism, and the development of coastal real estate are industries that are attracting investment, both local and foreign," he said./aa

Residents of a Paris suburb said Monday they are being used as a propaganda tool for a “separatism” bill in the French parliament.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, people who live in Trappes said they were disturbed by the allegations of French media outlets that they were “separatists.”

A student from La Plaine-de-Neauphle High School who did not want to be identified said an allegation by the school’s philosophy teacher, Didier Lemaire, that he receives threats from Muslim students does not reflect the truth.

"There is no clan life here as it is mentioned. Christians and Muslims live together," the student stressed, adding they fear these claims will affect their education.

“We have a fear of getting rejected in university applications just because we are from Trappes,” the student added.

Zerdy Zoulika, who has owned a restaurant in Trappes for seven years, also complained about the French media and politicians making their region a propaganda tool.

Zoulika wondered why the French teacher put forward such a lie which has upset the people who live in Trappes.

"We live here in accordance with global values like everyone else. Frankly, I cannot see a problem in this region as it is mentioned.”

She said they want the French media and politicians to leave Trappes alone.

“We live in such an ordinary suburb of France. We are all French citizens. Respect is what allows people of a country to live together. Stop discriminating,” she said.

Zoulika stressed that Buddhists, atheists, Muslims and Christians live together in Trappes with respect for each other.

Verstraeten Sylvie, who has lived in Trappes for 32 years along with her children and grandchildren, also disagreed with Lemaire’s allegations.

"The problems here are no different from those of other cities in France,” she told Anadolu Agency.

Sylvie said not all Muslims should be treated as terrorists just because some people who lived in Trappes went to Syria and joined the Daesh terrorist organization.

"Some politicians say 'Trappes is full of Arabic worshipers.' Yes, it's true. But it is also true that there are Latin-French people who go to church here. There is also the synagogue. People go there too,” Sylvie said.

Meanwhile, the mayor of Trappes, Ali Rabeh, said they have received numerous threats following Lemaire’s allegations.

French President Emmanuel Macron introduced the bill last year to fight "Islamist separatism.”

It is being criticized because it targets the Muslim community and imposes restrictions on almost every aspect of their lives.

It provides for intervening in mosques and the associations responsible for their administration as well as controlling the finances of associations and non-governmental organizations belonging to Muslims.

It also restricts education choices of the Muslim community by preventing families from giving children home education.

The bill also prohibits patients from choosing doctors based on gender for religious or other reasons and makes compulsory "secularism education" for all public officials./aa

As a result of persuasion efforts, another PKK terrorist surrendered in eastern Turkey, said security sources on Monday.

The terrorist fled the terror group thanks to the persuasion efforts of gendarmerie command teams and support of his family, said the source, who asked not to be named due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

The terrorist, who was active in Syria, surrendered at the border gate in Nusaybin, Mardin, and was then was transferred to Igdir, eastern Turkey.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people including women, children, and infants. /aa

Palestinian groups on Monday condemned the massacre of 13 Turkish citizens by the terror group PKK in northern Iraq.

Hamas "condemns the execution of 13 Turkish citizens in Gara," the group's spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri tweeted.

"We offer our condolences to the families of the martyrs, the people of Turkey, and the Turkish state," he said. "May Allah protect Turkey from all kinds of evil."

The Palestine Scholars Association in the Diaspora also condemned "the treacherous terrorist crime."

The Turkish nationals, who had been held captive for several years by the PKK, were executed by the group in Gara, northern Iraq over the weekend, during Turkey’s anti-terror operation in the region.

In its more than 30-year terror campaign against Turkey, the PKK – listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US, and EU – has been responsible for the deaths of 40,000 people, including women, children, and infants./aa

Zionists say move aimed at unifying Jewish communities in the Gulf, providing them with religious services

The Zionist Foreign Ministry on Monday announced the launch of an association that brings together Jewish communities in the Arab Gulf states.

The “Israel speaks Arabic” initiative, launched by the ministry, described the new association as “the first of its kind” and encompasses all “the six Gulf states,” meaning Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Kuwait, and Qatar.

The new Association of Gulf Jewish Communities (AGJC) said in its first-ever tweet that it was “committed to the growth and flourishing of Jewish life in the Gulf States,” calling on its to followers to “stay tuned for our exciting updates!”

On Monday, the “Israeli” Public Broadcasting Corporation (IPBC) said the group will seek to “provide religious services to Jews who travel to the Gulf countries whether for residence or tourism.”

According to IPBC, the association will be headed by Abraham Nono, who is also the chairman of the Jewish community in Bahrain.

Speaking to the IPBC, Nono said the group’s aim is “to unify the resources of the communities, such as kosher food — foods that conform to Jewish religious teachings — religious aid, and burial among other things,” and make them “available to all Jews in the Gulf.”

There are no accurate figures on the number of Jews residing in Gulf countries.

However, Zionists said recently that around 130,000 Zionists have visited the UAE since a normalization agreement was signed between Abu Dhabi and Tel Aviv last September year.

In 2020, the UAE, Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco announced controversial normalization agreements with Israel, following moves decades ago by Egypt and Jordan, which signed deals with Zionists in 1979 and 1994, respectively./aa
