OpenAI's ChatGPT and its developer tools have been crashing because of something called Distributed Denial of Service (DDOS) attacks. These attacks are like a bunch of bullies trying to overwhelm and shut down a website or service by sending too many requests all at once.
People who tried to use ChatGPT got error messages saying it was at capacity or not responding. Some couldn't even log in at all! It's been happening for a day, and it's been really frustrating for users.
OpenAI's Response
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, first said that the crashes happened because so many people wanted to use the new features they revealed at a conference. Nevertheless, that didn't explain everything.
Later, OpenAI admitted that the crashes were caused by abnormal traffic patterns, similar to DDoS attacks. It means that someone intentionally overwhelmed the system to make it crash.
The Hackers
Now, here's where it gets interesting. A group of hackers called "Anonymous Sudan" claimed responsibility for the attack. They sent messages on their Telegram channel, saying they targeted OpenAI because they believed the company was biased towards Israel and against Palestine.
