About 53 phone models over the next few days are facing a complete shutdown of the WhatsApp application, and access to messaging, photo and video sharing services will be blocked in the platform.
The platform, which is used by nearly two billion people around the world, updates its operating systems every year.
Smartphones will stop supporting WhatsApp if their operating systems are too old, and for Android phone users, WhatsApp will stop working on models with Android 4.0.4 or older.
iPhones will stop running the app if they have iOS 9 or earlier versions of the software.
Without an update, these specific Android models will stop supporting the app after November 1.
People who use three specific iPhone models will have to make sure their phones are up to date or risk losing access to WhatsApp.
