Call for Ceasefire

A group of famous film directors, who have won prestigious awards like the Oscars and Palme d'Or, have written an open letter. They are asking for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of detainees.

A Massacre of Extreme Proportions

The directors, led by Israeli director Nadav Lapid, are deeply concerned about what is happening in Gaza. They describe it as a massacre of extreme proportions. This means that a large number of people are being killed in a very brutal and violent way.

Terrible Violence

The letter talks about the terrible violence that happened on October 7th. This violence has led to even more violence and cruelty between Israelis and Palestinians. The directors believe that this needs to stop immediately.

Immediate Halt to Bombing

The filmmakers demand an immediate halt to the bombing in Gaza. They also want humanitarian corridors to be established. This means that safe paths should be created for people to receive help and support. Additionally, they want humanitarian aid to be provided to the people in Gaza. Many organizations are also asking for this. Lastly, they want the abducted people to be released right away.

Notable Signatories

Some of the directors who signed the letter include Aki Kaurismäki from Finland, La Tarr from Hungary, Ryosuke Magochi from Japan, and Claire Denis from France. There are also directors from the United States, France, and Germany who signed the letter.
