Major US stock indexes closed higher Monday, reversing course after starting the day with a strong selloff.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 99.13 points, or 0.29%, to close at 34,364.
The S&P 500 increased 12.9 points, or 0.36%, to close at 4,410.13
The Nasdaq went up 86.2 points, or 0.63%, to 13,855.
The VIX volatility index, known as the fear index, jumped 4.12% to 30.04.
The dollar index climbed 0.26% to 95.880, while the yield on 10-year US Treasury notes gained nearly 2 basis points to 1.76%.
Precious metals were mixed, with gold gaining 0.63% to $1,843 per ounce and silver slipping 1.17% to $24.03.
Crude oil prices declined 1.34%, with Brent crude trading at $86.16 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude at $84.05.
Bitcoin erased its declines over the last day, rising 4.84% to $37,013./aa
