In the heart of Kuwait, on June 25, 1937, a leader was born — Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. Today, we delve into the life and accomplishments of the 16th Amir of the State of Kuwait, who ruled from September 29, 2020, until December 16, 2023.
Early Life and Education:
Sheikh Nawaf grew up in the royal palace of Dasman during his father's reign, Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the former ruler of Kuwait. His education took place in various Kuwaiti schools, including the prestigious Mubarakia School. Sheikh Nawaf continued his studies at different educational institutions in Kuwait, shaping him for the leadership role that awaited him.
Career Highlights:
His journey in public service began when Sheikh Abdulallah Al-Salem Al-Sabah appointed him as the governor of Hawalli on February 21, 1961. Over the years, Sheikh Nawaf held key positions, including Minister of Defense and Minister of Interior during crucial times for Kuwait's security.
Noteworthy Achievements:
Security Integration: Sheikh Nawaf played a pivotal role in supporting and building security integration among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and the wider Arab world.
Youth Engagement: He actively worked to encourage Kuwaiti youth to join the police force and administrative roles within the Ministry of Interior, aiming to develop their skills and contribute to national security.
Policy of Replacement: Sheikh Nawaf implemented a policy of "replacement" within the Ministry of Interior, allowing young Kuwaitis to assume key roles, injecting new energy and fresh perspectives into the ministry.
Establishment of Administrative Units: Under his leadership, key administrative units such as the Affairs of the Elected and Election Affairs were established, contributing to the efficiency of government operations.
Legacy and Oath of Office:
On September 29, 2020, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad ascended to the throne, becoming the 16th Amir of Kuwait after the passing of Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. In his oath of office, Sheikh Nawaf pledged to safeguard the dignity, security, and stability of Kuwait.
