The Kuwaiti government has announced that August 8-9 will be a public holiday in celebration of the Islamic New Year.

Although the Islamic New Year falls on Monday, the government has declared Sunday also as an official holiday.

Based on a proposal presented by the Civil Service Commission, all government agencies, institutions and bodies will suspend work during the holiday.

With Sunday-Monday being official holidays, Kuwaitis will get an extended weekend from August 6-9./ agencies
