The Night of Power - also referred to as Laylatul Qadr - falls within the final ten days of the month of Ramadan. It is believed to be the night when the first verses of the Holy Qur’an were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), as guidance for all of mankind.
It is also known as the night in which your fate is decided for the following year, and as such is a time to reflect and repent for your sins and pray for forgiveness and Allah’s (SWT) mercy.
It is said that during this holy and prosperous month, the gates of hell are closed, and the Shaytan (Satan – Devil) is locked away. Therefore, you have the advantage and opportunity to have an even clearer mind and purer soul. It is solely a night of extended worship, prayer, recitation of the Holy Qur’an and visiting the Mosque.
The blessings of praying on the night of Laylatul Qadr is believed to be better than that of a thousand months of worship and devotion. There are many amongst us with diverse opinions on many Islamic subjects but, Insha’Allah, Allah (SWT) see’s the sincerity of all the genuine intentions.
This also means that any good deeds sincerely performed on this Night of Power are equal to those accomplished over a thousand months.
“You cannot attain righteousness until you give to charity from the possessions that you love. All that you give to charity, Allah (SWT) is fully aware of.”
The Holy Qur’an [3:92]
What to do on Night of Power (Laylatul Qadr)
This night is better than a thousand months. This means worshipping Allah in Laylatul Qadr is better, in reward, than worshipping Him a thousand months, which is equal to 83 years and some months. All your past sins will be forgiven.
Muslims are advised to spend this night in prayer, Dua (supplication) & Dhikr (Remembrance of Allah), seeking forgiveness and asking Allah for all the blessings of this world and hereafter.
