The people of Gaza endure hardships and horrors that even mountains cannot bear. These immense sufferings have pained hearts and brought tears to eyes, leading many to ask: When is the victory of Allah? The answer comes from Quran: "Unquestionably, the victory of Allah is near" (Surah Al-Baqarah:214).
The question of when Allah's victory will come is ancient, and the delay in victory is a human nature that affected all people, even the prophets themselves, who asked: When is the victory of Allah? "Or do you think that you will enter Paradise while such [trial] has not yet come to you as came to those who passed on before you? They were afflicted by poverty and hardship and were shaken until [even their] messenger and those who believed with him said, 'When is the help of Allah?' Unquestionably, the help of Allah is near" (Surah Al-Baqarah:214).
In this noble verse, the Almighty reminds His believing servants of a firmly established truth of faith: that victory in this world and success in the Hereafter must pass through trials, hardships, and calamities that shake the Muslims and nearly drive people to despair due to their severity.
Ibn Jarir Al-Tabari says: "Or do you think, O believers in Allah and His messengers, that you will enter Paradise without experiencing what those before you, the followers of the prophets and messengers, endured from hardships, trials, and tests, so that you will be tested as they were tested by poverty and ailments, and you will not be shaken as they were; meaning, without being afflicted by enemies with fear and intense hardship until people delay the victory of Allah for them and say: When will Allah help us? Then Allah informed them that His victory is near, that He will elevate them above their enemy, and that He will fulfill His promise to them, elevate their word, and extinguish the fire of the war of those who disbelieve."
This is exactly what happened to the people of Gaza during "Al-Aqsa Flood" battle after eleven months of the war’s beginning. The occupation imposed a complete siege on them, preventing them from food, medicine, water, clothing, and electricity. They faced all kinds of hardship, ailments, diseases, and plagues that shook them and pained their hearts. They remained patient and steadfast, proclaiming day and night: We are content with Allah as our Lord, with Islam as our religion, and with Muhammad (peace be upon him) as our prophet and messenger. In response to this trial from the Creator, met with satisfaction and steadfastness by the creation, we can only be certain that the victory of Allah is near, as our Lord, the Almighty, promised in His Book.
The Destruction of the Oppressors
The way of Allah in His creation is that He supports the oppressed even when they are at their weakest and destroys the oppressor even when he is at his strongest. We have lessons and signs in the story of Prophet Musa with Pharaoh. Allah drowned Pharaoh and his army when they were at the height of their power, with all their numbers and equipment, and He supported Musa and those with him when they were at their weakest. Allah says: "And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them inheritors" (Surah Al-Qasas:5). And He, the Almighty, said: "And We caused the people who had been oppressed to inherit the eastern regions of the land and the western ones, which We had blessed. And the good word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of what they had patiently endured. And We destroyed all that Pharaoh and his people were producing and what they had been building" (Surah Al-A'raf:137).
We are certain that Gaza is now closer than ever to a clear victory and a great conquest by the grace of Allah alone. This is the promise of Allah, and Allah does not break His promise, and who is more truthful than Allah in speech? Allah says: "The command of Allah is coming, so be not impatient for it. Exalted is He and high above what they associate with Him" (Surah An-Nahl:1); and the command of Allah here refers to everything Allah promised His servants, including the victory of the believers, the punishment of the criminals, and the reward of the obedient.
Sins Obstruct Victory
Here, some of the doubtful ones might say that the victory of Allah only descends upon those who deserve it, and those who deserve it are the people who obeyed the command of Allah and avoided His prohibitions, people who did good deeds and avoided sins, thus deserving the victory of Allah Almighty. As for the Muslims today, there is much to be said about their distance from the religion of Allah and even their opposition to it, so do such people deserve the victory of Allah?
Only the doubtful ones who spread bad news and disseminate despair among the Mujahideen in particular and the Muslims in general would say such things.
We must know that the generation of the awaited victory, through whom Allah will grant victory, are humans who make mistakes and are not infallible. All of the children of Adam make mistakes, without exception. Allah Almighty supported Musa and those with him and showed them one of the greatest signs in all of history; they saw Pharaoh and his soldiers drowned. So what did they do? Allah says: "And We took the Children of Israel across the sea; then they came upon a people intent in devotion to [some] idols of theirs. They said, 'O Musa, make for us a god just as they have gods.' He said, 'Indeed, you are a people behaving ignorantly!'" (Surah Al-A'raf:138).
After Allah Almighty saved Musa and the Children of Israel from Pharaoh and his army, they came upon a people worshiping idols and asked Musa to make for them idols to worship besides Allah. This happened right after they were saved from drowning and immediately after their miraculous victory!
And the certainty beyond doubt is that the Muslims today are at a higher and better level of faith than the people who asked for idols to be made for them. Nevertheless, Allah Almighty granted them victory over one of the most tyrannical oppressors in history.
