Jewish Myths to Seize Al-Aqsa
Jews
believe in deeply misguided myths and legends to justify the
"liberation" of Al-Aqsa Mosque. Among these, rumors spread in Jewish
circles in early 1997 about the appearance of the sacred red heifer in the city
of Haifa. In April of the same year, a group of rabbis traveled to Haifa to
inspect the heifer that had been born there; they blessed it and placed it
under close guard.
In the
eyes of these rabbis, the birth of the red heifer serves as the scriptural
justification for demolishing Al-Aqsa Mosque and erecting the so-called Temple
on its ruins.
The
heifer was born in October 1996, and the rabbis found it to meet the
specifications described in the Torah. However, it would need to reach three
years of age before being slaughtered, burned, and its ashes scattered to
"purify" Jerusalem of impurity and rid it of all non-Jewish
presence.(1) In their belief, this heifer is a sign from the God of the Jews
that the removal of impurity and the elimination of Islamic and Christian holy
sites in Jerusalem is drawing near — beginning with the Church of the Holy
Sepulchre and, most critically, Al-Aqsa Mosque — to be replaced by the
so-called Temple of Solomon built upon their ruins.
Religious
extremists invoke hollow pretexts year after year to storm Al-Aqsa Mosque,
Judaize it, and work toward its destruction — all in a bid to erase Jerusalem's
Arab-Islamic civilizational identity and impose a Jewish character upon it.
The
Israeli government works to consolidate incremental gains in its effort to
fully Judaize Al-Aqsa Mosque — much as it did with the Ibrahimi Mosque in
Hebron — driven by biblical claims and colonial ambitions. Initially, it
permitted Jews and tourists to visit the site, which inflamed hatred and
hostility and escalated the conflict, reaching its peak with Sharon's ill-fated
visit to Al-Aqsa in the year 2000.
The
decision by some Arab capitals to open their doors wide to the butcher Sharon —
his ministers and his ambassadors — only emboldened Israel's grip on its
biblical lies, myths, and territorial ambitions, and hardened its resolve to
Judaize Jerusalem, entrench its major settlements across the West Bank, and
reject any implementation of the right of return.(2)
