Existence and The Human Being
No one can
claim that the creation of the heavens and the earth took place after man had
been created. No one can allege that man had come into existence before the
creation of the earth to live on, the sun to rise, no night or day, and no air
to breathe! Rather, man came into existence to find everything perfectly
prepared for him before his advent. What is more, myriad things, far beyond
man's ability, were created and subjected to serve him, endowing him with all
life's necessities without cost. Other things were created and subjugated to
him to provide him with whatever he needed, yet requiring the exertion of human
efforts and labor, so that the earth could be populated. Thus, through reason
alone, no one could question the fact this universe had been created and
prepared for human life long before the human beings themselves existed. Allah,
The Almighty, says: {He it is Who created for
you all that is on earth. Then He rose over (Istawa) towards the heaven and
made them seven heavens and He is the All-Knower of everything.} [Al-Baqarah
2:29]
No one can
rationally argue about this issue, because the universe was before the creation
of man, so how could humans have done any work before they existed and were
created ?!! This noble verse gives us the answer: "And (remember) when
your Lord said to the angels: {Verily, I am
going to place (mankind) generations after generations on earth.} [Al-Baqarah 2:30]
We say that
this evidently confirms the truth that the universe had been perfectly prepared
for man before he was created. This is an issue that the human mind questions.
Thus, we have
reached the starting-point, I mean, that Allah, Exalted be He, with the sublime
perfection of His Most Perfect Attributes and Powers, created this universe,
brought it into existence, and organized it without the help of any of His
creations. In fact, Allah, The Almighty, needs none of His servants; rather, we
have all come to a universe that had been prepared for us most seamlessly and
perfectly.
The
Universe Bears Witness to Its Creator
However, the
power of this universe is not subject to us or our abilities; rather, it is
mightier than all human abilities combined. The sun, for instance, is more
powerful and stronger than the power and energy of all human beings, and so are
the earth, the seas, and the mountains. Thus, these creations must have been
subjected to us by the power of their Creator, not by our power, for they are
harnessed to serve us and cannot defy His command. The sun cannot rise one day
and set another according to its own will, granting warmth and the means to
sustain life to whom it pleases and withholding it from others. Nor can the
wind blow one day and stop blowing the next day! Of course, the same applies to
the rain that cannot refrain from falling on the earth lest life cease and
people perish. Similarly, the Earth cannot refuse to sprout vegetation.
None of this is
possible, nor can all humanity claim that it has any role in the
perfectly-precise workings of this universe, because the creation of anything
in the universe and the continuity of its performance of its mission therein
are not, by any means, subject to the human will. If we contemplate the human
being's life, we shall find out that he too must testify that he has a Creator
and an Originator, for no one dares claim that he created a human being, nor
can anyone claim to have created himself.
