Warning Against False Religious Messages
All praise is due to Allah, and may peace and
blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah, his family, and his Companions.
Warning
Against False Religious Messages
I have come across a leaflet that many people
circulate, whether out of ignorance or with malicious intent. Its author begins
by quoting the words of Allah, the Exalted: {Rather,
worship Allah ˹alone˺ and be
one of the grateful.} [Az-Zumar 39:66]
He then quoted several other verses before making the
following statement: “Make sure to share these verses, as doing so is believed
to bring good fortune, prosperity, wealth, and success.”
He then went on to claim that the leaflet had been
circulated around the world, that whoever took care to distribute it had gained
enormous profits, and that whoever ignored it had suffered various kinds of
accidents. He also claimed that it would ward off harm and bring healing and
good fortune within four days.
Why Believing in These Messages Is Contrary
to Islamic Belief
Since this leaflet has no basis in truth whatsoever,
but is instead a fabrication, a falsehood, and a claim made without knowledge,
its contents must be rejected. The belief that it brings goodness and wards off
harm, or that those who circulate it will prosper while those who neglect it
will suffer accidents, is a corrupt and baseless belief that undermines Islamic
faith.
Such a belief encourages people to attach their hearts
to this leaflet instead of turning to Allah, the Almighty. Thus, I consider it
necessary to warn Muslims against it, urge them to destroy it wherever they
find it, and alert their fellow Muslims to its falsehood. They must be made
aware that believing in its claims contradicts the law of Allah and undermines
Islamic belief, because such beliefs are entirely unfounded. They are nothing
but lies attributed to Allah and baseless claims.
This leaflet is similar to the so-called testament
attributed to the caretaker of the Prophet’s Chamber, peace and blessings be
upon him. We have previously warned people that this document is false, that it
is a fabrication, and that neither it nor the claims made by its author have
any basis in truth.
The
Islamic Duty to Reject False Beliefs and Warn Others
Both of these leaflets are among the most manifest
falsehoods. Every Muslim is therefore obligated to beware of them and warn
others against them, in accordance with the words of Allah, the Exalted: {Cooperate with one another in goodness and
righteousness, and do not cooperate in sin and transgression.} [Al-Ma`idah 5:2]
And His words: {The
believers, both men and women, are guardians of one another. They encourage
good and forbid evil.} [At-Tawbah 9:71]
There is no doubt that these two leaflets promote evil
that must be forbidden. Those in positions of authority must investigate who is
distributing them and impose appropriate penalties to deter those individuals
and anyone who might follow their example.
We ask Allah to grant us and all Muslims a proper
understanding of the religion, steadfastness in adhering to it, and the ability
to reject whatever contradicts it. We also ask Him to protect us all from
misleading trials and the temptations of Satan.
We further ask Allah, the Exalted, to humiliate the
enemies of Islam wherever they may be and to thwart their schemes. Indeed, He
is All-Hearing and Ever-Near.
May Allah’s peace and blessings be upon our Prophet
Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
