Unexploded Deadly Remnants Pose Challenges and Concerns in the Gaza Strip
Nightmare in Gaza: Toxic Zionist Bombs, Deadly Debris, and Global Complicity
The people of Gaza are now in danger due to tons of explosives. They have been surrounded and under siege by explosive remnants, so the problem is no longer only the stacks of rubble surrounding them. Not to mention the harmful chemicals that pose a long-term, multi-year hazard to crops, animals, and people all at once. In addition, pregnant women face a serious risk of giving birth to damaged babies as a result of breathing in harmful gases from these unexploded materials, which also take decades to eliminate.
Scale of Destruction and Explosive Debris
According to preliminary estimates, over the two full years of continued Zionist aggression and genocide., the occupying
army has dropped around 20,000 unexploded explosive weapons, including bombs,
rockets, and shells. As of mid-October 2025, estimates show that between 65 and
70 million tons of rubble have accumulated due to the destruction of thousands
of homes, buildings, and critical infrastructure—including roughly 71,000 tons
of unexploded explosives and time bomb-forming remnants.
UNMAS Warns of Growing Threat
Following the ceasefire in Gaza, Luke Irving, the leader of the United
Nations Mine Action Service (UNMAS). mission, issued a warning that
the threat of unexploded ordnance in the Gaza Strip is growing. These
explosives are extremely dangerous. He stated that while the removal of
armaments will take a long time, it is an essential effort to gradually return
the region—recently emerged from a catastrophic two-year war—to normalcy.
UNMAS noted that the buildup of explosives is primarily due to
restrictions placed on Gaza over the past two years, saying, "It was not
possible to conduct large-scale surveys in Gaza." Many explosives remain
on public and major highways. Although "three armored vehicles are waiting
at the border to enter Gaza, which would allow for safer and broader
operations," UNMAS has not yet received permission from Israeli
authorities to bring in the necessary equipment.
Gaza Center for Human Rights Issues Urgent Warning
The Gaza Center for Human Rights. warned of the
growing threat posed by tens of thousands of tons of explosive ordnance left by
the Israeli occupation army. As of mid-October 2025, the rubble has reached
between 65 to 70 million tons, including approximately 71,000 tons of time
bombs in the form of explosives and unexploded fragments.
These massive amounts of debris, combined with explosive ordnance, worsen
conditions and place Gaza at the center of one of the greatest humanitarian
crises in modern history. The organization called for a comprehensive national
strategy for rubble management in cooperation with international organizations.
This plan should include risk assessment, safe recycling, and temporary storage
of usable materials.
Return of Displaced Civilians Amid Global Silence
Despite the risks, many displaced residents have chosen to return to
their homes after the ceasefire, putting their lives in danger. The
international community's silence about this terrible reality amounts to
indirect complicity in the ongoing suffering of Gaza's citizens, who now live
amid death-filled ruins.
Genocide and International Complicity
Despite international appeals and directives from the International
Court of Justice. to halt it, the occupying state has been carrying
out genocide in the Gaza Strip since October 7, 2023, with assistance from the
United States and Europe. This genocide has included killing, hunger,
devastation, displacement, and incarceration.
Horrifying Estimates of Gaza's Level of Devastation
Al Jazeera. covered the extent of the catastrophe
and devastation in Gaza. To help audiences visualize the enormity of the
destruction, the program includes startling analogies:
- If the debris were loaded onto
trucks carrying 20 tons each, the convoy would stretch 30,000
kilometers—three times the distance between Washington and Gaza.
- The debris equals the weight of
5,000 Eiffel Towers (each weighing 10,000 tons).
- The rubble could construct a wall
as long and wide as the Great Wall of China, spanning 21,000 kilometers.
- It could also build eight
pyramids the size of the Great Pyramid of Giza, which weighs roughly 6.5
million tons.
