On the occasion of "World Arabic Language Day," the Arabic Language Academy held a comprehensive workshop yesterday, Monday, on "Employing Artificial Intelligence in Teaching the Arabic Language." The session was inaugurated by the Academy’s Secretary General, Dr. Abdulhamid Madkour, who addressed the challenges facing the Arabic language due to the tremendous developments in algorithms and computing. He emphasized that the Arab nation is in dire need of a thousand "Al-Biruni" and "Ibn Al-Haytham" in our era, who would keep pace with the times and strive for the global recognition of their language... the language of science, religion, and civilization.
Dr. Abdulhakim Radi delivered selections from the heritage of Arabic poetry, highlighting the Arabic language and its role in the political discourse of state institutions.
Dr. Mohamed Fahmy Talba, a member and rapporteur of the Academy's Artificial Intelligence Committee, then spoke, noting that contemporary educational systems, encompassing all their components—learners, content, interactions, and temporal and spatial frameworks—now rely on computing technology by over 70% through smart e-learning, and it is imperative to enter and harness that world, leveraging its immense capabilities.
Additionally, Dr. Mohsen Rashwan and Dr. Ayman Shaheen, experts in the Academy's Artificial Intelligence Committee, shared their insights, addressing many of the challenges related to teaching skills and the automated design of the Arabic language regarding assessment models, evaluation, and the use of artificial intelligence to bridge the gap between the Arabic language and other languages.
