It started in 2015 with around 20 mosques opening their doors to their neighbours. More than a decade later, Visit My Mosque has become a nationwide initiative coordinated by the Muslim Council of Britain, bringing people of different faiths and backgrounds together through mosque tours, conversations, food, and community activities. The MCB confirms that the initiative began with about 20 mosques in 2015. In 2023, more than 200 mosques participated and thousands of visitors attended across the UK. Finsbury Park Mosque also welcomed hundreds of local schoolchildren for tours, talks, and refreshments. This year, Visit My Mosque took place on September 19–20, 2026, with the official campaign listing 250+ mosques across the UK and welcoming visitors of all faiths and none. The initiative is not simply about explaining Islam. It is about meeting neighbours face to face, asking questions openly, challenging assumptions, and turning a one-day visit into longer-term community relationships. Mosques themselves often serve functions beyond prayer from education and youth activities to food support, family services, and local outreach. The question is simple: Can one open door become the beginning of lasting trust?
