7 Ideal Ways to Pass Exams Successfully
As the end of
the academic year approaches and final exams begin, students race against time
to reap the rewards of their efforts in studying and seeking knowledge. This
requires ideal preparation strategies in order to achieve the best possible
results.
What truly
matters is not the quantity of study hours, but the level of understanding, the
quality of comprehension, and the ability to avoid weaknesses, distractions,
and mental fatigue caused by phones and social media, all of which can
negatively affect a student’s performance during this crucial stage of the
academic journey.
The following
lines summarize the seven best ways for students to successfully overcome final
exams and conclude the year with success, by Allah’s permission:
First: Organize your time and create a clear schedule for
covering your subjects. Set specific daily goals that focus on understanding
before memorization, summarizing lessons, mastering each subject’s curriculum,
and becoming familiar with its key points and content.
Second:
Avoid studying for long hours without breaks, as
exhaustion and boredom can gradually affect the mind and spirit. Instead,
follow a study routine such as studying continuously for thirty to forty-five
minutes, followed by a short ten-minute break for deep relaxation or a healthy
drink.
Third: Practice solving previous exam papers to become
familiar with question patterns and commonly used exam formats. This also helps
students manage exam time effectively and simulate a real exam experience,
reducing stress while increasing self-confidence and the ability to handle
final exams successfully.
Fourth: Maintain a positive and optimistic mindset, and avoid
negative thoughts, fear of failure, or anxiety about difficult exams. Students
should remember successful examples, embrace determination and perseverance,
study diligently and thoroughly, and realize that seeking knowledge is an act
of obedience to Allah.
The Prophet
Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“He who follows a path in quest of
knowledge, Allah will make the path of Jannah easy to him. The angels lower
their wings over the seeker of knowledge, being pleased with what he does. The
inhabitants of the heavens and the earth and even the fish in the depth of the
oceans seek forgiveness for him. The superiority of the learned man over the
devout worshipper is like that of the full moon to the rest of the stars (i.e.,
in brightness). The learned are the heirs of the Prophets who bequeath neither
dinar nor dirham but only that of knowledge; and he who acquires it, has in
fact acquired an abundant portion.” (Abu Dawood
and At-Tirmidhi(.
Fifth: Stay away from distractions and unnecessary
entertainment. Avoid wasting time on phones, television, or browsing social
media, as these reduce concentration and weaken productivity. They may also
increase stress and anxiety before exams, especially when students encounter
negative posts about difficult exams or stories of failure from others.
Sixth: Get enough sleep, especially the night before the
exam, and avoid staying up late. Students should also be cautious about
consuming excessive caffeine, as it can increase anxiety and stress. Instead,
they should drink sufficient amounts of water and eat healthy, balanced meals
such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, while avoiding heavy, fatty, or
overly sugary foods.
Seventh: Seek success and guidance from Allah by maintaining
prayer, remembrance, supplication, and recitation of the Quran. Students should
also make use of authentic supplications for overcoming difficulties, including
the supplication of the Prophet (peace be upon him):
“O Ever-Living One, O Eternal One, by Your mercy I call on You
to set right all my affairs. Do not place me in charge of my soul even for the
blinking of an eye.” (An-Nasa’i(.
