Israeli POWS in Gaza

The Israeli media is buzzing with discussions about Israeli detainees held by the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip. One particular argument caught attention when Avitai Broditis, whose wife and three children were detained, confronted Boaz Basmut, a member of the Likud Party’s Foreign Affairs and Security Committee.

Broditis expressed his frustration, stating that those detained by the Palestinian resistance had not been returned, questioning the notion of victory. He criticized the army, the Minister of Security, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for not defending him during the Battle of the Al-Aqsa Flood, which dealt a painful blow to Israel.

Broditis emphasized that the problem lies with the Israeli army, not Hamas. He admitted that Hamas had outsmarted Israel and executed a brilliant campaign, while the Israeli army collapsed. He challenged Basmut's belief that the goal of the war was to eliminate Hamas, accusing him of living in a fantasy world.

The Shalit Case

Analysts also focused on the ongoing negotiations regarding Israeli detainees held by Palestinian factions in Gaza. Reserve General Nadav Badan, a former commander, believed that not liberating the detainees would be a mistake. He stressed the importance of seizing the opportunity to free them.

Ilan Segev, a senior employee at the Israeli Internal Security Agency, acknowledged that negotiations with Hamas are challenging. He highlighted the difference between the Gilad Shalit deal and the current situation. In the Shalit case, negotiations were simpler because Hamas was the only party involved, and they could be communicated with through the Egyptians.

It is worth mentioning that the release of Gilad Shalit, an Israeli soldier, was secured in exchange for the freedom of 1,027 Palestinian prisoners.
