The Best Qualities of a Righteous Wife in Islam
Marriage is intended for companionship,
enjoyment, the establishment of a righteous family, and the formation of a
healthy society.
Therefore, the woman who should be
sought in marriage is the one in whom these objectives can be fulfilled. She is
the woman who possesses both outward and inward beauty.
The Importance of Physical Beauty in
Marriage
Physical beauty refers to the
completeness and attractiveness of appearance. The more beautiful a woman is in
her appearance and the more pleasant she is in her speech, the more comfort the
eye finds in looking at her and the more willingly the ear listens to her
words. This opens the heart toward her, brings tranquility to the chest, and
allows the soul to find peace in her. This is realized in the saying of Allah
the Exalted: {And one of His signs is that He
created for you spouses from among yourselves so that you may find comfort in
them. And He has placed between you compassion and mercy.} [Ar-Rum 30:21]
The Role of Faith and Character in
Choosing a Spouse
Inward beauty refers to the perfection
of religion and character. The more religious and morally upright a woman is,
the more beloved she becomes to the soul.
A woman of faith fulfills
the commands of Allah, safeguards the rights of her husband, protects his
honor, cares for his children and wealth, and assists him in obeying Allah. If
he forgets, she reminds him; if he becomes sluggish, she motivates him; and if
he becomes angry, she seeks to calm and please him.
The Best Qualities of a Righteous Wife
in Islam
A woman of noble character shows affection toward
her husband, respects him, does not delay in matters where he would like her to
take initiative, and does not take initiative in matters where he would prefer
restraint.
God’s
Messenger was asked which woman was best he replied, “The one who pleases [her
husband] when he looks at her, obeys him when he gives a command, and does not
go against his wishes regarding her person or property by doing anything of
which he disapproves.”
The Prophet (peace and blessings be
upon him) also said: “Marry women who are loving
and very prolific, for I shall outnumber the Prophets by you,”
or he said, “outnumber
the peoples by you.”
If it is possible to find a woman who
combines beauty of appearance with beauty of character and faith, then this is
true perfection and a source of happiness, by the permission and grace of
Allah.
