Social Reform Society: Enduring Pages and Pioneering Roles
Attacks and Misrepresentations
Some figures, openly or implicitly,
have launched attacks on the Social Reform Society and its role in the current
crisis, employing the fallacy of the so-called “straw man”—distorting the idea
and then responding to the distorted version. They cast doubt on the Society’s
presence, placing it in categories of absence, ambiguity, or hesitation.
Clear Presence During the Crisis
A review of public actions between
February 28 and March 28, 2026, shows that the Society was among the most
visible Kuwaiti public-interest organizations, indeed the clearest in presence,
the fastest to act, and the most diverse in its means of expression—ranging
from official statements and direct declarations to fieldwork and accompanying
moral discourse.
Key Actions and Initiatives
1. February 28, 2026 – Issued an opening statement calling for calm,
solidarity, adherence to state instructions, and reliance solely on official
sources of information.
2. March 2, 2026 – Released a formal statement titled “Social Reform
Society’s Declaration on the Blatant Iranian Attacks”. Notably, no other
public-interest group explicitly named the Iranian aggression.
3. March 6, 2026 – Organized a blood donation campaign, widely attended,
embodying national unity. The Society demonstrated how patriotic sentiment
translates into public service and community initiative.
4. March 7, 2026 – Issued a statement on the easing of the crisis and the
resumption of Taraweeh and Qiyam prayers in mosques.
5. Ongoing Media Efforts – Produced diverse awareness content—religious, national,
and artistic—through videos and articles by leading figures such as Dr. Khaled
Al-Madhkour, Sheikh Dr. Jassim Muhalhil Al-Yaseen, Sheikh Yahya Al-Aqeeli,
Sheikh Salem Al-Khaldi, Sheikh Ali Al-Obaidli, Dr. Abdullah Al-Shammari, Dr.
Khaled Al-Anzi, Sheikh Dr. Hamad Al-Mazrouei, Dr. Othman Al-Asfour, Dr.
Mohammed Al-Shatti, Dr. Adel Al-Zaid, among others.
6. Condolence Statements – Issued condolences for martyrs of the homeland in this
crisis: Walid Majid, Abdulmohsen Abdulaziz, Fahd Al-Majmad, and Abdullah
Al-Sharah.
These initiatives reflect a scale of
effort unmatched by any other public-interest association, a source of pride
rather than competition. Yet, critics have forced the Society into clarifying
its role to ensure sacrifices and national contributions are not overlooked.
Historical Continuity of National Role
The Society’s role in the current crisis is not incidental nor imposed by circumstance. As many observers of its
history note, it is an extension of a long-standing trajectory. The Society has
consistently been present during Kuwait’s major crises—from the Iraqi invasion
and its associated solidarity committees, to the national, religious, and
social roles it played, including offering martyrs from the resistance. Its
contributions continued through the 2003 crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020,
and other moments when the nation required responsible civil institutions. This
historical continuity underscores the Society’s enduring mission.
