Namaa Charity Calls for Technical, Digital, and Cultural Literacy

Abdulaziz Al-Kandari, Deputy CEO of Namaa
Charity (part of the Social Reform Society), stated that
the issue of illiteracy is one of the most pressing humanitarian and
developmental issues in our world today. It is not merely teaching reading and
writing, but a fundamental gateway to human dignity, sustainable development,
and social peace. He noted that UNESCO estimates that over 771 million people
worldwide, most of them women and youth, still lack the simplest reading and
writing skills, which poses a barrier to the advancement and progress of societies.
Specialized Educational Projects
On the occasion of International Literacy Day, which
falls on September 8th each year, Al-Kandari added: "We at Namaa
Charitable Society, as an extension of the Social Reform Society's role, give
top priority to education through specialized projects such as 'Teach Me and
I'll Have My Reward,' 'Sponsorship of a University Student,' and the 'Education
for All Center,' among other initiatives that have benefited thousands of
students inside and outside Kuwait over the past years. These projects affirm
our practical commitment to contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable
Development Goals, especially Goal 4, which is related to ensuring inclusive,
equitable, and quality education for all."
Literacy Is an Inherent Human Right
Al-Kandari continued: "On this occasion, we affirm that
literacy is not a luxury, but an inherent human right and a means to promote
gender equality and a key driver of human and social development. Therefore, we
call on civil society organizations and the private sector to double their
efforts and adopt innovative educational and training programs that respond to
the needs of individuals and communities and open up future horizons for
them."
A Shared Responsibility to Expand the Scope of Literacy
He explained that this day places a shared responsibility on
us to rethink educational methods and expand the scope of literacy to include
technical, digital, and cultural aspects, to prepare future
generations to keep pace with the rapid changes in the world. He added:
"We at Namaa
Charity are committed to being an
active partner in this path, based on our humanitarian and Islamic values and
our vision to serve the Kuwaiti community and the entire nation."
Supporting Education and Combating Illiteracy is a Strategic Focus
Al-Kandari also explained that Namaa Charitable Society, as an
extension of the Social Reform Society's role, has made supporting education
and combating illiteracy a strategic focus of our developmental work. In recent
years, it has implemented a number of quality educational projects that have
benefited thousands of male and female students inside and outside Kuwait.
Among our most prominent programs is the " Teach me,
and you will have my reward" project,
which alleviates the burden of tuition fees for students who are unable to
afford them and supports them with necessary school supplies, benefiting
thousands of students annually. In addition, the "Sponsorship of a
University Student" project has enabled hundreds of students to continue
their university education without interruption, and the "Education for
All Center" offers developmental programs for general education students.
Education Is a Comprehensive Concept
Al-Kandari concluded his statement by saying, "We at Namaa
Charitable Society do not view education only as a means of traditional
literacy. We adopt a more comprehensive concept that includes technical,
digital, and cultural literacy, so that individuals can keep pace with the
challenges of the age and participate effectively in development. On this
occasion, we call on our partners from governmental and private institutions
and civil society to redouble their efforts to achieve comprehensive and
equitable education for all, and to work together for a future free of
illiteracy, where education is a bridge to human dignity, a means of human
empowerment, and a guarantee for achieving sustainable development and social
peace."
