“Gabriel’s Wing” … and the Artificial Intelligence!

I am currently reading the book by the great scholar Muhammad Abdullah Daraz, author of The Moral Constitution in the Qur’an. What caught my attention was a statement by the great scholar, Dr. Abdelsabour Shahin—may God have mercy on them all—who said in a brief yet profound phrase:
“In the absence of a moral framework, anything can be imagined.”

Moral Disintegration in Our Societies

I said: This is precisely what we witness in our societies—stories and events that are barely believable, as if our local, regional, and even global communities are shedding the skin of their moral heritage to wear the skin of those who dazzled and colonized them.

Youth and the Culture of Superficiality

A simple glance at the behavior of youth, male and female: a rush toward appearances, an obsession with superficiality and triviality, all in the name of art. Even culture is being transformed into theatrical displays that toy with emotions and base ideas.

The Ethical Crisis of Our Time

The challenge today is a moral one in every sense of the word. And if our thinkers foresaw this challenge at the dawn of the last century, then today we must seek the fastest escape from the furnace of this human catastrophe. The world’s silence over the Gaza disaster is but a glaring example of the scale of the moral collapse and the unraveling of the ethics of human dignity.

The AI Wave and Its Hidden Currents

Then another glance toward the scientific surge and new technologies—despite their benefits—has led everyone to describe them as a sweeping wave that shakes the foundations of established moral and religious values. We now see artificial intelligence technologies and social platforms penetrating homes and families with a massive flood of visual and informational dazzle, and with messages that are anything but innocent—laden with atheistic and sexual ideas, or at best, shallow and frivolous. Without generalizing, the result is evident in the personality of the youth and the identity of society.

Complex Problems, Possible Solutions

Yes, the solutions are not easy, but they are possible. Not simple, but complex—yet necessary. Not brief, but methodical—yet accessible.

And how can a complex, intricate, and methodical matter be reduced to mere words? Yet the title of the solution lies in returning to the supreme framework: divine revelation.
“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most upright and gives glad tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.” (Al-Isra: 9)

Then, by following the path of the Master of Creation ﷺ, the teacher of goodness to mankind, whom our poet Muhammad Iqbal described in his collection Gabriel’s Wing:

Your tranquil heart, a fistful of light,
Granted the eyes of heaven their reach.
This earth yearns for your purity—
You are its proof, and you are its guide.
