Praise Be To Allah
4 Fruits That Make You Constantly Grateful

Praise (Alhamdulillah) is one of the most sublime acts of
worship, demonstrating a servant's acknowledgment of God Almighty's blessings
upon them. It is the prayer of the people of Paradise. Allah (SWT) says: “And the last of their call will be, 'Praise to Allah,
Lord of the worlds!” (Yunus: 10).
With it, Allah began His noble Book, saying: “All
praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds.” (Al-Fatiha: 2). The
Prophet (PBUH) said: “The best remembrance is
'There is no god but Allah,' and the best supplication is 'Praise be to Allah.”
The mention of praise (Alhamdulillah) appears in many places
in the Noble Quran and the Sunnah, indicating its great status in Islam and
highlighting the worldly and otherworldly fruits it yields. It's not merely
words spoken in joy, but a great heartfelt act of worship with wondrous fruits
that many people cannot imagine or anticipate the good resulting from it.
How many hearts have been opened by praise! How many worries
have been removed by praise! How many doors of good have been opened by praise!
How many broken hearts have been mended by praise! How many prayers have been
answered by praise! And it is from Allah's kindness to His servants that He
made praise one of the easiest acts of worship and the simplest on the tongue,
yet the greatest in reward and balance.
1. Praise Increases Blessings
One of the foremost fruits of praise is that it increases
blessings. Allah (SWT) says: “And [remember]
when your Lord proclaimed, 'If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in
favor]” (Ibrahim: 7). This
increase is absolute: in wealth, children, health, happiness, tranquility,
serenity, and contentment—an increase and blessing in everything because of
praise.
A person might see a small blessing or a meager provision and
praise Allah for it, and then, by virtue of this praise, be granted what never
crossed their mind. This is because praise contains an acknowledgment of Allah
Almighty's favor, and the poor servant's acknowledgment of the rich God's favor
is a sincere invitation for greater generosity and immense bounty.
2. Praise is the Shortest Path to
Allah's Pleasure
Allah (SWT) says: “And if you
are grateful, He approves it for you” (Az-Zumar: 7). Allah Almighty
is pleased with the gratitude of those who are grateful to Him and the praise
of those who praise Him. If Allah Almighty is pleased with a servant's
gratitude and praise for Him, it is a sign of that servant's acceptance by
their Lord, the elevation of their status, and His love for them.
If Allah loves a servant, He becomes their hearing with which
they hear, their sight with which they see, their hand with which they strike,
and their foot with which they walk. If they ask Him, He gives them, and if
they seek His help, He helps them.
One of the signs of Allah's pleasure is that He inspires the
servant to be grateful, for whoever gives thanks has indeed brought forth Allah
Almighty's pleasure. And whoever Allah is pleased with, there is no fear or
sorrow for them.
3. Praise Saves Its Owner from
Allah's Punishment
The believing servant enjoys life without neglecting their
ultimate goal in it, knowing that they will inevitably stand before Allah. They
are always preoccupied with Allah Almighty's pleasure, fearful of His
punishment. Allah reassured these individuals, saying: “What would Allah do with your punishment if you are
grateful and believe?” (An-Nisa:
147). It is as if Allah Almighty commands His servants to continuously praise
and be grateful. Whoever persists in it, Allah Almighty grants them safety from
punishment, and whoever Allah grants safety from His punishment, He admits them
into Paradise.
4. Praise Fills the Scale
Praise saves its owner from punishment, and one of its fruits
is also that it fills the servant's scale on the Day of Judgment. Abu Malik
Al-Harith bin Asim Al-Ash'ari narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
“Praise be to Allah fills the scale.”
Although it is a short, easy word, its reward is immense, beyond imagination
and conception. It fills its owner's scale with good deeds on the Day of
Judgment, and this indicates the greatness of this word in the sight of Allah.
If praise had no other virtue than this, it would suffice as an honor.
Whoever wishes to make their scale heavy without effort or
money should increase their praise, saying with a present heart and a grateful
tongue: "Alhamdulillah." Let us be keen on this word and repeat it
with sincerity and conviction, for it is salvation in this world, a weight in
the Hereafter, and a sign of Allah Almighty's pleasure and love for His
servant.
