10 Tips to Successfully Pass Job Interview
A personal
interview with an employer, or a meeting with the specialist responsible for
hiring new employees in any company, is a crucial and central stage in securing
a job, gaining management’s trust, and surpassing others waiting in a long line
for that opportunity.
You may meet
one person or several, and you may face more than one written or oral
test—especially with the increasing intensity of competition in the job market.
However, good preparation will ensure that you pass the interview successfully.
Here are 10
tips to follow before attending any job interview, which may be decisive in
shaping your professional and career path.
First: Rely upon Allah, seek success
from Him, and ask Him for ease and acceptance, in compliance with His saying: “My success comes only through Allah.” (Hud 11:88).
Second: Prepare a concise and brief résumé that includes your
qualifications, experiences, certificates you have obtained, your distinctive
skills, and what makes you the ideal candidate.
Third: Learn about the history of the company you are
applying to, gather information about its projects and future plans, so that
you have a reasonable understanding of the organization. During the interview,
clarify how you can contribute to the company’s progress and help achieve its
goals.
Fourth: Try to learn in advance about the people who will
conduct your interview, if you have their names, and review their profiles.
This will help you converse with them more effectively and give you an initial
idea about them, which may provide common ground to better understand their way
of thinking and the questions they may direct to you during the interview.
Fifth: Pay attention to your appearance, wear a pleasant
fragrance, and present yourself in a positive manner that leaves a good
impression on employers. It is preferable to wear formal attire during personal
interviews.
Sixth: Be punctual and respect appointments. Do not be late
for your interview or make excuses for doing so, as this may cost you the
opportunity; first impressions last.
Seventh: Avoid excessive nervousness during the interview. If
you tend to feel anxious before interviews, practice relaxation techniques or
deep breathing.
Eighth: Postpone questions related to salary, vacations, and
other benefits until near the end of the interview, and ask about them
politely—for example: “Could you please tell me about the benefits the company
offers?”
Ninth: Demonstrate your ability to improve the work system,
present your ideas and suggestions to add value to the company, and show your
competence by explaining how you would contribute positively to the team if
appointed.
Tenth: Send a thank-you email to the company’s management
after the interview, expressing your appreciation for the opportunity to
connect and meet with them. This is not merely a thank-you note, but also a
subtle reminder of your suitability for the position.
