First British astronaut on International Space Station blasts off

Tim Peake is due to launch his historic mission to the International Space Station shortly after 11am today. Here are the latest updates:

Tim Peake, set to be the first British astronaut on the International Space Station, will be blasting off on his historic mission at 11.03am UK time today. We will be bringing you all the latest news, photos and updates from the launch here.

  • Major Tim Peake will be involved in experiments that could shape future missions to Mars and further into our universe, during his time as the first publicly funded Briton in space. The British astronaut will become the country’s first proper person in space when he jets off from Kazakhstan. His mission will see him spend six months on the International Space Station.

    Tim Peake may have received congratulations from around the world for his historic space mission but there was at least one person unhappy to see him blast off today.

    His youngest son, four-year-old Oliver, found it difficult to say goodbye to his dad as a crowd of relatives and well-wishers waved him off to prepare for launch.
