On this day, His Highness Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah, the late Amir of the country, canceled the British protection agreement signed by Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah, the late Emir of Kuwait in 1899. Britain recognized the independence of the State of Kuwait.
Since that day, independent Kuwait has been working to serve the Kuwaiti citizen. The regular schools have been developed and missions have been sent abroad to countries such as the Arab Republic of Egypt, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and many other countries. The State has also insisted on maintaining the health of citizens across the country.
Due to the development of Kuwait, the State has built housing cities and distributed housing to Kuwaiti citizens, which has continued up till now.
On 26 August 1961, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah issued an Amiri Decree No. 22 of 1961 establishing elections for the Constituent Assembly to establish a democratic system.
On November 11, 1962, members of the Constituent Assembly of the then Emir, Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem, submitted the draft constitution, which the Council has passed.
His Highness issued the following decree: "After reviewing Law No. (1) of 1962 on the Basic Law of Governance in the Transition Period and on the basis of the decision of the Constituent Assembly, we ratified this Constitution and issued it."
On the Arab and foreign side, Kuwait has taken upon itself to defend the issues of the Arab nation, first and foremost the Palestinian cause, and participated in the Arab wars against the Zionists and provided many martyrs in these wars, and Kuwait remains steadfast in its position against the Zionists, according to Kuwaiti Law No. (21) of 1964, Prohibits the possession and circulation of "Israeli" goods of all kinds, "as well as the Amiri Decree of 6 July 1967, which recognizes that Kuwait since that morning at war with the Zionist entity, and Kuwait is still maintaining these laws.
Kuwait established the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), a Kuwaiti fund established on 31 December 1961 to provide and manage financial and technical assistance to developing countries. It was established in the same year.
Kuwaitis have maintained their own country, which was proven during the brutal Iraqi invasion of Kuwait on 2 August 1990.
Kuwait continues under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Commander of Humanitarian Action, to preserve the prosperity of the Kuwaiti citizen and to work to solve problems among the Arab countries and to play the role of honest mediator between the adversaries. The Kuwaiti parliament in recent years is the implementation of the policies of the state under the leadership of its Emir, may Allah protect him and his family.
In response to what Kuwaiti Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah's has provided to Kuwaitis, Kuwait presented a gift to His Highness, may Allah have mercy upon him, by changing the date of Independence Day to the day of His Highness's sitting.
