Obama appoints new envoy to oversee anti-ISIS coalition

- Obama appoints Brett McGurk who replaces Marine Gen. John Allen

WASHINGTON - The U.S. President Barack Obama appointed Friday Brett McGurk as the new U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Global Coalition to Counter ISIS. 

McGurk replaced the retired Marine Gen. John Allen, who is stepping down after 13 months of service as the special envoy for the global coalition to fight Daesh.

McGurk was the deputy of Allen. Previously, he had served as Special Advisor to the National Security Council under Obama. 

Allen will leave office on Nov. 12.
