American Egyptian doctor Abdul El-Sayed may be the first Muslim US governor, running in the state of Michigan.
Sayed was born and raised in Michigan to immigrants who left Egypt in pursuit of greater opportunity in America.
He went on to become a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and earned a medical degree from Columbia University. He became the youngest health official of a major American city at the age of 30, being responsible for the safety and health of over 670,000 Detroiters.
Sayed designed a program giving schoolchildren across the city free glasses if they need them, and supported children with asthma by blocking corporations from polluting the air with harmful toxins.
He lives in Detroit with his wife, a mental health doctor.(Alarabya.net)
